Tinubu donates N50m to victims of Zamfara attacks

The national leader of the Congress of All Progressives, APC, and former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu announced on Thursday a donation of 50 million naira to the Zamfara communities recently attacked by bandits.

Tinubu announced the donation shortly after sympathizing with Governor Bello Matawalle in Gusau, Zamfara.

The APC national leader called for sustained prayers to overcome the insecurity situation in the state.

“I could offer prayers for people from anywhere, but coming in person is important.

“The enemies of knowledge, Boko Haram and other criminal elements will be defeated through compromise in humanity.

“We pray that the entire country is stable and if the enemies refuse to stop the carnage, we will eliminate them.

“We believe in the ability of President Muhammadu Buhari to restore law and order and restore stability and development paths to our country,” said Tinubu.

He was accompanied on the visit to Gusau by Kashim Shettima, former Borno Governor, the former President of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu and the former National Vice President of APC, Southwest, Pius Akinyelure.

Mr. Matawalle, who received the APC leader, said his visit would further comfort the grieving communities and the entire people of the state.

“It is my pleasure to welcome His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Jagaban Borgu, who took time out of his strict commitments to visit the state to sympathize with our people over the recent tragic incident of banditry attacks in some Anka communities. . and the Bukkuyum local government areas, ”said Mr. Matawalle.

He described Tinubu as a dean of contemporary Nigerian politics, a dedicated leader, and a bridge builder.

Similarly, he cited him as someone who had spent the last 23 years of the nation’s democracy fostering unity, nurturing and nurturing people who had equally distinguished themselves in various spheres of human endeavor in contemporary Nigeria.

The governor pointed out that the problem of banditry in the state has persisted for more than a decade.

“When I took office in 2019, I made addressing this issue my top priority, as meaningful development could not be achieved in an atmosphere of insecurity.

“Considering the reality that the conflict is tied to ethnic divisions, I initiated a program of dialogue and reconciliation, which thought leaders overwhelmingly accepted throughout the state.

“As a result of our dialogue and reconciliation program, hostilities ceased for a period of more than nine months.

“Hundreds of kidnapped people were released unconditionally by their captors,” Matawalle said.

He explained that as the disarmament process progressed; The glorious era of brotherly love and mutual coexistence between segments of the Zamfara communities returned.

According to him, for the first time in more than a decade, the annual Fulani festival of ‘Sharu’ was held in Gusau in 2019.

However, he expressed his sadness that the achievement became bad news for some “politicians interested in the state.

“They therefore perfected plans to sabotage the peace process. In some cases, security reports indicated that they were directly involved in the planning and execution of kidnappings, apparently to embarrass the government.

“For example, according to the figures confirmed by the leaders of the affected communities when I visited the communities after the recent attacks, a total of 58 people lost their lives in contrast to the scandalous figures published in the media,” he said.

Matawalle said that, in addition to dialogue, his government had committed huge resources to providing logistics and allocations for the security forces deployed in the state.

In 2019 alone, he said his government acquired and distributed 200 new Hilux trucks for state security forces.

The governor added that his administration would continue to do everything in its power to end the threat of banditry in the state.

“As we approach the 2023 general election, we will be more vigilant and proactive, knowing that these destabilizing forces are unlikely to tone down their antics.

“They can continue to hatch nefarious schemes for political gain,” Matawalle said.

He thanked the APC leader for taking the time to visit and sympathize with the government and people of the state.

“May Allah richly reward you and fulfill your desire to build a strong bond between Nigerians across all divisions.”
