According to the President, this new legislation go bring fresh vibe wey go strengthen the legal profession, and make people sabi say “law no be play-play matter.” E go improve professionalism, discipline, and overall trust wey the people get for legal practice. In short, na overhaul wey dey come!
The bill don include some sharp provisions, wey fit turn legal world upside down. For Section 1, dem go prioritize public interest, protect rule of law, and make justice no dey far from anybody. (Na only when you go court, na when you go sabi wetin be ‘justice’.)
Section 2 dey focus on core ethical principles like integrity, confidentiality, and high standards. E be like say dem don finally catch lawyers wey dey do as dem like. Section 3 go create new body wey go make sure say only qualified paddy go enter legal profession. Section 17 dey plan to strengthen the Disciplinary Committee, make dem fit deal with erring lawyers sharp sharp, including suspension and even removal from the roll. If person no behave well, dem no go hear say na ‘lawyer’ e be again.
And make we no forget the mandatory two-year Post-Professional Legal Internship (PPLI) wey dey part of di reform. Also, dem don talk say all law offices must undergo inspection and accreditation to make sure dem dey comply with correct standards.
President Tinubu call on Senator dem to gree the bill quick quick because Naija need better legal service wey go fit meet up with both local and international challenges. After di reading, dem don refer am to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business to check am well, wey report go land back within four weeks. (Na time wey go tell if dem go take this matter serious.)
