Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu don make e clear say e no wan hear word of another ASUU strike again. E don direct Education Minister, Mr. Olatunji Alausa, make dem hustle quickly settle tings wey dey bother the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
After their meeting for Aso Rock Villa, Alausa talk say the government don almost meet all of ASUU demands sef, and dem dey try gather extra concessions from the President (as if money dey grow for tree, abi?). “The President no wan ASUU go on strike, and we dey do everything we fit to make sure say students waka no comot school,” he talk.
Alausha no gree say the last strike wey last six days na necessary matter. “We dey talk to dem… We don go back to negotiation table. This visit na to also tell the President wetin dey happen with ASUU and to grab more support for education,” he add.
ASUU don dey vex for government for long time over issues like funding wahala, salary arrears, and di bad shape of university infrastructure. Them don carry wahala go strike before, wey don scatter academic calendar and delayed graduation for many students. Di October wahala wey dem start na two-week warning strike after dem see say government no dey take dem seriously about their demands.
Alausha explain sey Dei Tinubu administration don combine negotiation committee wey go handle all unions for higher institutions. This one go replace di old setup wey each union get one committee wey dey do their own thing. “We don expand am to fit talk to both academic and non-academic unions… No be wahala, everything dey calm now, we dey listen to dem,” e yarn.
Dem also launch new digital portal wey go dey show all di financial matter for federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. “We need data, we no fit dey fly blind,” Alausa talk like sey na navigation wey dem wan add.
So as e be, no be say we dey see ultimatum from joint unions for tertiary institutions. Alausa clear am say dem no get any ultimatum, and everything dey work well. “I talk to ASUP President on Monday. Everything dey calm, dem sabi say we be listening government,” e confirm.
Dis whole matter fit change di game for education if dem fit handle am well before wahala come back again. Na so far so good, and we dey hope sey dem no go allow another strike scatter our schools again!
