Aston Villa continues to recover from their heavy defeat against Newcastle on the opening day of the season with back-to-back wins. In their next match, they will host Hibernian at Villa Park for the second leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier. Burnley, on the other hand, has suffered two consecutive losses in their opening Premier League games, a trend that has continued for the third season in a row. They will face Nottingham Forest in the second round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday as they search for their first win of the season.
In the match between Aston Villa and Burnley, Matty Cash scored twice, while Moussa Diaby added a second-half goal to secure a 3-1 victory for Villa at Turf Moor. Unai Emery’s team took a two-goal lead into the halftime break with Cash finding the back of the net twice within the first 20 minutes. Burnley quickly responded with a goal from Lyle Foster in the 47th minute, as they pushed for an equalizer. However, it was Villa who sealed the win with Diaby’s well-taken finish, restoring their two-goal advantage and securing consecutive Premier League victories for the Villans.
In the closing minutes of the game, Gudmundsson delivered a free-kick from the left, but the ball was cleared by Carlos. As the game approached added time, Villa did a good job of managing the tempo, ensuring their victory. The referee added five minutes of extra time to conclude the second half. Burnley had a chance when Rodriguez met Cullen’s cross, but he couldn’t redirect the ball on target. Olsen, Villa’s goalkeeper, had to make a quick save as Rodriguez’s deflected cross threatened the goal. However, the flag was up for an offside call. In a late opportunity, Rodriguez spun and shot from the edge of the box, but the ball went over the bar. This was a significant chance for Burnley to get back into the game, but they were unable to convert.
