Terrorists kill 60 at Goronyo market in Sokoto

Terrorists, often referred to as bandits, invaded Goronyo market in Sokoto state, killing more than 60 people.

Terrorists reportedly stormed the market around 5 p.m. Sunday, sporadically shooting traders.

According to Daily Star, an online publication based on Sokoto, the bandits would have operated for nearly two hours without any resistance from the security forces, who could not be informed of the attack due to the shutdown of telecommunications in the area. region.


According to local government sources, around 40 bodies were counted on Sunday evening.

Updates from some Goronyo residents confirmed to the DailyStar that 62 bodies were already dropped off at Goronyo General Hospital on Monday morning, in addition to some of the bodies that were taken away by their relatives for the funeral.

The sources also told the newspaper that many more are still missing as they tried to escape by bumping into the bandits in the bushes during the shootings.


Police could not be reached immediately for comment.
