Technician allegedly rape 14-year-old girl

An Ikeja magistrates court in Lagos state on Monday ordered a 28-yearold technician, Pope Ogala, to be transferred to the Kirikiri Correctional Center for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.

The police charged Ogala, who resides in Ishawo Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, with rape.

The Magistrate, MO Tanimola, ordered following a motion by the Prosecutor, ASP Víctor Eruada, that the matter be referred to the Director of the Public Ministry, DPP, for legal advice.

Tanimola, who did not accept the defendant’s statement, also ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send it to the DPP for advice.

The magistrate postponed the case until February 12 for further mention.

The prosecutor had previously told the court that Ogala committed the crime sometime in 2015 and on November 20, 2021 at his residence.

Eruada said that the defendant who is the victim’s brother-in-law raped her.

The offense violates Section 260 of the Lagos State Penal Law, 2015.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that the section prescribes life in prison for rape.
