    Kogi tertiary institutions won’t go on strike -Bello

    Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi has said that all tertiary institutions of the state will continue to run strike-free academic calendar in conformity with his administration policies.

    The governor gave the assurance on while addressing students at the Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, shortly after inspecting several projects executed by the TETFund in the institution.

    “My administration is very.much aware of the danger and damages strike actions have on education and development and has vowel not the allow such to impede on the future of our youths and the state.

    “It’s the desire of my administration to ensure that students enter into any tertiary institution of their choices and graduate within the stipulated time frame without any delay whatsoever.

    “This, we will try and do till the last day of this administration purposely to allow and encourage our youths from discovering their potential and contribute to growth and development of the state and the nation as a whole,” he said.

    Bello expressed satisfaction with all the projects executed in the polytechnic and thanked the federal government for assisting state tertiary institutions in their infrastructural development.

    The governor also commended the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Salisu Usman-Ogbo, for his outstanding performance as a commited and dogged administrator.

    Earlier in his welcome address, Usman-Ogbo, told the governor that all the TETFund projects were executed by local contractors and devoid of any delay.

    The rector said: “This feat wouldn’t have been in position without your (Bello’s) support and cooperation and so we are so grateful to you and your administration.”

    Kogi specialist hospital to recruit doctors, consultants – CMD

    The newly renovated Kogi Specialist Hospital is set to employ more doctors, consultants and nurses for effective and efficient service.

    The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof. Isah Adagiri-Yahaya, made this known in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday shortly after Gov. Yahaya Bello visited and inspected the renovated hospital.

    “With the turnaround of the hospital by our hardworking governor, we are set to employ more doctors, consultants, nurses, lab scientists, amongst others, to give the general public better services.

    “In fact, with the kind of facilities we have now, they (public) should expect better services from us; more so that the governor has given us a standing approval to employ qualified and determined staff.

    “We presently have 50 doctors in our 14 departments and each of the departments must have a consultant.

    “We have four consultants in Optics and Gynaecology, ENT Surgeon, General Surgeon, Opthalmology and Psychiatric but we need more of them,” he said.

    Adagiri-Yahaya expressed gratitude to the governor for ordering for the purchase a Citi-Scan Machine and an Advanced Life Support Mobile Clinic or Ambulance for the hospital.

    The CMD said that the ambulance, which had all the necessary facilities, would soon be delivered to the hospital alongside the Citi-Scan Machine.

    He said that once they arrived. they would be kept at the newly constructed Diagnostic Centre.

    According to him, the Citi-Scan Machine will go a long way in helping accident victims and cancer patients in and outside the state.

    Gov. Bello inspects projects in Lokoja, expresses satisfaction

    Gov Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Thursday, expressed satisfaction over all the projects executed in Lokoja metropolis and across the state.

    Bello made the statement while addressing newsmen at Kogi State Specialist Hospital Lokoja, shortly after he inspected some projects executed by contractors across the confluence city.

    ”Exactly at this spot, precisely in October last year, I interviewed the contractor handling this hospital, and I did express my dissatisfaction over the quality of job that was being executed.

    ”Today, June 30, 2022, I have come back to inspect the same job again here at Kogi State Specialist Hospital, and I am highly satisfied with the quality of work done.

    ”GYB (Gov Yahya Bello) stands for standard and quality, and you can only use quality and standard to describe GYB,” he said.

    The governor noted that the job was eventually handled by a local contractor, saying he had done credibly well.

    He thanked the contractor, being an indigene of Kogi State, for executing a very good job to his standard at a far cheaper rate.

    ”So, today we have a remodeled Specialist Hospital, manned by a competent Chief Medical Director, Prof. Yahaya Ozigi and all of his other team in the hospital.

    ”The medical director is doing very well and all his patients, as well as the doctors, nurses and other workers are expressing their satisfaction in terms of job, pay remuneration and incentive,” Bello said.

    He thanked all the stakeholders who had contributed one way or the other towards making sure that quality jobs were executed in the state.

    Commenting on other projects inspected, Bello said, ”I am taking aback; all the jobs executed so far are all excellent, ready for commissioning”.

    Bello emphasised that he personally inspected all the projects to ensure that they met his taste and quality before inviting President Muhammadu Buhari, APC flag bearer, Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries for commissioning.

    The governor added that every other place dimmed necessary to be touched in the city had been captured, saying, ”we will continue to work till the last second in office as the Executive Governor of Kogi State”.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that other projects inspected include GYB Model Science Secondary School, Adankolo, PMB Civic Centre, Ganaja Overhead bridge, among others.

    Kogi vigilance group kills 2 kidnapers, rescues 2 victims

    Kogi vigilance group on Sunday smashed a kidnapers’ den, killed two of the criminals and rescued two victims.

    The rescued victims are: Mallam Sanni Uwaiti and Ramatu Tukur, both of Toll Gate area, along Okene and Ajoakuta axis.

    Arms and ammunitions belonging to the kidnappers were also recovered.

    Mr Abdulrahaman Ohiare, Chairman, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi, said this in a statement issued in Lokoja by his Special Assistant, Mr King Habib.

    Ohiare said the two kidnappers met their waterloo during an operation against terrorists carried out by a combined team of the vigilance group and local hunters in the early hours of June 26.

    “One of the kidnapers died during a shootout with the vigilance group and the other, who was seriously wounded, died on the way to the hospital.

    “The gang had been terrorising motorists on Okene-Lokoja road and Okene-Auchi road of Kogi before the operation.

    “The early morning operation successfully led to the rescue of two abductees held captive by kidnapers at Upogoro Hills in Okehi,” he stated.

    The Chairman explained that the operation was in response to Gov. Yahaya Bello’s directive to the Council Chairman to swing into action and Make Okehi LGA and environ safe.

    He said the Council would leave no stone unturned in its bid to rid Okehi LGA of all forms of crimes and criminality.

    He added that the council appreciative of Bello for considering the security of lives and properties of Kogi citizens as a top priority of his administration.

    First Lady decorates ADC, Shugaba with new rank

    The First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday in Abuja decorated her Aide-De-Camp (ADC), Mr Usman Shugaba, with his new rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

    Buhari, who was flanked by the Inspector-General of Police IGP) Usman Alkali-Baba, while decorating the newly promoted officer, urged him to step up his job performance to justify his promotion.

    The first lady described the newly promoted officer as a highly committed and dogged officer who performed his task with high sense of honesty and humility.

    Buhari congratulated shugaba on his elevation and urged him to take his promotion as a challenge to do more for the country.

    “I thank you for coming to support me to decorate one of my dogged staff, as an Assistant Commissioner of Police. Usman Shugaba, is a highly committed Senior Officer in the Nigeria Police today.

    “I wish you all the best in your new positions,” she said.

    In his remark, the  IGP said that promotion in the Nigeria Police Force was an achievement that came through hard work and dedication to service.

    “When I received the recommendation of the promotion from the First Lady that the ADC had been performing his duty diligently with honesty and dedication.

    “I had no option than to put my own recommendation to the Police Service Commission for his elevation. Shugaba has today joined the league of senior officers in the Nigeria Police,” the IGP said.

    Alkali-Baba described the Nigeria Police as a reputable institution, which guaranteed service to humanity, and the protection of lives and property of the citizenry.

    He also charged the First Lady’s ADC to remain resolute in his new rank, and to continue doing a good job.

    “By this promotion, you will be taken to the category of decision making process and you are to command not less than 1000 officers and men at any point in time.

    “So, I want to congratulate Shugaba for reaching this far in his chosen career in the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Shugaba was born in 1982 and joined the Nigeria Police Force in 2002.

    He had served in various capacities within the force before his appointment as the First Lady’s ADC.

    Shugaba had served in the Police Command in various states, including as ADC to former IGP. Mohammed Abubakar and Kogi Gov. Yahaya Bello, among others. .
