Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has expressed joy on the release of the state former governor Chief Joshua Dariye, saying Plateau people also rejoice on the development.
The governor stated this when he led a delegation from the state along with his wife’s, Mrs Regina Lalong to visit Dariye at his residence in Abuja.
The visit was disclosed by his Spokesperson, Dr Makut Macham in a press release on Friday in Jos .
He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his magnanimity in granting pardon to Dariye and former governor of Taraba, Rev. Jolly Nyame on April 14, saying massive prayers and appeal was made to facilitate it.
He said the visit was to encourage him as his release was another opportunity for him to reflect on his experience.
Lalong urged him to continue to contibute to the advancement of Plateau through his knowledge, while praying to God to grant him good health in all his duties.
In his response, Dariye thanked God for his release and using people such as Lalong and President Buhari to make it a reality.
He debunked rumours that he was running for senate and advised politicians in Plateau to unite and support the governor in promoting the interest of the state and its people.
He described governance as an opportunity for those in charge to do their best and leave posterity to judge their efforts, saying no one could not finish the business of government in a day.
The delegation which included National Assembly members as well as members of the State Executive Council, also visited Rev. Jolly Nyame at his residence in Abuja.
The Plateau Government says it will partner with a private finance firm, United Capital, to clear the backlog of about N18 billion of gratuities, death benefits and arrears of pension of its erstwhile civil servants.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Dan Manja, disclosed this at a media briefing at the end of the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday in Jos. “United Capital has agreed to take up the back log of gratuity, death benefits and arrears of pension of civil servants, totaling about 18 billion.
“However, the civil servants have a choice because it is going to be discounted at a rate, so it is subject to negotiation with the civil servants, “ he said.
Manja said the council approved the downward review of prices of properties at the Government Reserve Area in Shendam Local Government Area for its occupants who are retired workers, following appeal from them on difficulty in paying for the houses and the land allocated to them several years ago.
He said council was informed that Gov Simon Lalong had approved and released N114 million as payment for the operational licence fees of the Plateau Radio and Television, noting that the corporation was currently up to date in the payment of the fees.
Manja said that more than N1billion was approved for new projects and variations for previously awarded ones projects.
He said the projects included the Cemetery Road in Dadin Kowa in Jos South LGA and the construction of access road to the Area Command Office of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Other projects approved included the supply and installation of solar-powered street lights within the new Government House and works at the General Hospitals in Kwal, Mabudi and Riyom.
The commissioner said that the council applauded Lalong for his appointment as the Director-General of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign saying, it has “positioned Plateau on the national map of national politics“.
He said council also commended Lalong for his efforts in facilitating the reopening of Karl Kuum University which was suspended in 2021 by the National Universities Commission following a disagreement with its host community.
The council also rejoiced on the release of the state`s former governor, Chief Joshua Dariya, and the former governor of Taraba, Rev. Jolly Nyame, in the aftermath of their pardon by President Muhammadu Buhari on April 14.
The Asiwaju Group (TAG) and APC, South Korea chapters on Tuesday, said that with Gov. Simon Lalong and Mr Festus Keyamo as the party’s Presidential Campaign Director General and Spokesperson, APC’s victory in 2023 is assured.
Recall that the APC on Thursday, announced the choice of Lalong, the Plateau governor and Keyamo (SAN) the Minister of State for Labour and Employment as DG and spokesperson of its presidential campaign organisation respectively.
The National Chairman of the APC, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, announced the choice of the duo after he led the party’s presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu and the vice presidential candidate, Sen. Kashim Shettima to see President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari, in the course of the week, directed the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to produce more solar cells to boost the alternative power sources in the country.

According to him, the Federal Government has embarked on several reforms aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s energy sector aimed at improving energy access to communities across the country.

He pledged that the Federal Government would remain committed to collaborating with the private sector in improving energy access, creating jobs and industrial development.

Earlier in the week, the president received Letters of Credence of Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. James Christoff and Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, Juan Oritz, on Tuesday in Abuja.
At the event, Buhari commended collective efforts of nations towards tackling security challenges across the globe, and within Nigeria, urging more collaboration to check terrorism, banditry and insurgency.
The Nigerian leader told the diplomats that successes in taming insecurity had been recorded through collaboration across borders, and more could be achieved.
President Buhari, on Aug. 3, administered the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office on three new Permanent Secretaries of the Federal Civil Service.
NAN reports that the Permanent Secretaries include Lydia Jafiya from Adamawa; Udom Okokon Ekenam from Akwa Ibom and Farouk Yabo from Sokoto State.
The president performed the ceremony shortly before the commencement of the weekly virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), at the Council Chambers of the presidential villa, Abuja.
The FEC meeting approved 2.59 billion dollars for the development of Badagry Deep Seaport in Lagos State.
The council also approved N2.6 billion for the procurement of utility vehicles and gadgets for security agencies operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The president also congratulated two of his aides, Sarki Abba and Amb. Lawal Kazaure, on being conferred with the highest civilian national honours of Niger Republic.
Abba is the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Household and Domestic Matters while Kazaure is the State Chief of Protocol.
Also during the week under review, President Buhari joined the entertainment industry, particularly artistes and musicians, in commiserating with ace instrumentalist, singer and song writer, Bongos Ikwue, who lost his wife, Josephine Ifeyinwa, 73. He also joined family, friends and associates in mourning the death of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mustapha Balogun.
President Buhari had sent condolences to family, friends and associates of Prof. Akin Mabogunje, who passed on at 90. Buhari declared that Mabogunje’s “departure will be greatly felt by the nation, especially the academia”.
President Buhari also condoled with former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, over the demise of his elder sister, Mrs Maryamu Dimka, who died on Wednesday.
Maryamu was the wife of Late Commissioner of Police, Mr S.
K. Dimka, and survived by children including Mrs Elizabeth Rimdans, one time Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra and Bauchi State.
The Plateau government has inaugurated the construction of 844 housing units at Zanwra in Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area of the state for workers.
Speaking while performing the ground-breaking ceremony, Gov. Simon Lalong of the state described the housing unit as “a dividend of peace in the area”.
He said the project would bring succour to workers by enabling them to have access to modern affordable housing, with flexible payment system.
He commended Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for prioritising access to affordable housing for civil servants, through its collaboration with the Federal Housing Authority and the Federal Mortgage Bank (FMB).
“Through the Workers Housing Estate, our civil servants will no longer have cause to worry about owning a house or renting accommodation since there is a mechanism for them to own one under very friendly terms,” he said.
He said the state government in collaboration with FMB has provided home renovation loans worth N2 billion to more than 2, 500 civil servants to assist them address housing challenges.
The governor said tha a committee headed by the Head Of Service had been constituted to establish the residential houses, offices, farms lands and all assets owned by the state.
“The committee will also advise government on which of the property could be given out on owner occupier and those to be redeveloped under public private partnership,” he said.
He urged the developer of the housing units to ensure compliance to development control standards, adding that the houses should be constructed according to approved plans to prevent building collapse.
In another development, the governor expressed concern on misinformation disseminated on social media, that the state government has ceded Jos Main Market to Jaiz Bank Nigeria Plc. through its proposed rebuilding contract.
“We are going into a partnership that will see the bank funding the rebuilding project 100 per cent and sharing the shops in a 40-60 per cent ratio for the purpose of lease only.
“The 40-year lease is for individuals that will buy the shops and not the bank.
“I appeal to our people not to pay attention to the propaganda and political exaggerations being peddled that the market will be sold out to an Islamic bank,” he said Earlier, in his remarks, the state Head of Service, Mr Stephen Hyat said “the housing unit occupies 40 hectares of land and will boost the wellbeing and productivity of workers”.
Hyat said that 2,956 workers were beneficiaries of the modern housing scheme by the government, which would improve the economy through ownership of land documents, which could serve as collateral to access loans for businesses.
In his remarks , the paramount ruler of Irigwe nation, Bra Ngwe Irigwe retired Rev. Ronku Akah, thanked the governor for implementing the housing unit in his chiefdom, saying it would expose the area to holistic development.
Also, the Chairman of NLC in Plateau, Mr Eugene Mangi, thanked Lalong for conceiving the housing unit and actualising it, saying, “26 attempts were made before to construct housing units for workers to no avail,” .
He thanked the governor for constructing access roads to the housing units, while expressing hope that the houses would be completed between 15 months and 18 months.
Speaking at the event, the partner for Drallop Services, the contractors for the housing units, Alhaji Suleiman Imani of Imani Property Do, Jos, said that more than 1,600 jobs would be created in the execution of the project.
Plateau Governor Simon Lalong on Friday began the construction of mass housing estate to address the state housing deficit.
Lalong at the groundbreaking of the estate, which is in partnership with Odigbo Properties Limited, said that the state had a housing deficit of 1.2 million.
The governor stated that the groundbreaking marked another milestone in the provision of mass housing in Plateau through partnership between government and the private sector.
The governor pointed out that housing became an important issue because the population was increasing daily while houses were becoming scarce.
“This has led to many challenges, including rapid urbanisation characterised by urban slums, over-crowding, unwholesome environmental conditions, absence of open spaces and overdevelopment of land among others.
“These challenges continue to bother government, hence the efforts to engage the private sector in developing modern housing that provides top class facilities, using modern building technologies.
“The engagement with Odigbo Properties Ltd for the construction of Royal Palm Estate is one of the outcomes of the efforts of government in this regard.
“There are 19 other MOUs signed on behalf of government by Ministry of Housing with private developers and we are awaiting their arrival to commence construction just as Odigbo Properties has done.
“Through partnerships such as this, we hope to address the shortage of mass housing in the state and also address the problem of unplanned development that has seriously affected the beauty of the city and hampered access,” he said.
Managing Director, Odigbo Properties Limited, Mr Chikieze Odigbo said the partnership was borne of the company’s desire to ensure that most Nigerians had quality roofs over their heads.
Odigbo announced that Royal Palms Estate, sitting on a 40 hectares of land, would provide over 500 houses.
The managing director stated that based on the advice of Plateau Ministry of Housing, the houses, comprising three bedrooms, two-bedroom bungalows and one bedroom would be built in phases.
“For the first phase, 50 houses will be completed within eight months meaning that 50 families will live in the next eight months.
“The next phase will be 100 houses and we will continue like that till we meet our target.
“The estate will have recreational centres, health centre, shopping mall, school and worship centres.
“In fact, Royal Palms Estate is a one-stop where every facility and service would be provided within,” he explainedAccording to him, there would be solar power with each house with its panel.
Chairman, Odigbo Properties Limited, Gen. Daniel Bako, told the gathering that adequate security would be provided in the area.
Bako appreciated the community leaders and land owners for making the land available.
The chairman thanked the agencies that subscribed to the the programme, saying that their staff would remain grateful for the gesture.
Plateau Commissioner for Housing, Mr Ibrahim Dadi said that housing projects came along with many employment opportunities for youths.
Dadi urged citizens particularly civil servants, to take advantage of the estate to own their houses.

It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Tinubu, and APC National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu unveiled Gov. Lalong on Thursday in Abuja.
