    Father, son, drown in Kano well

    A father, 60, Malam Bala and his son, Sunusi Bala, 35, died in a well at Sabon Garin Bauchi, in Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State, while draining water from it.

    A statement from the spokesperson of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, said on Wednesday in Kano that the incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

    He said: “We received an emergency call from Wudil fire station  at about 11:30 a.

    m from one Isma’ila Idris that two men had been trapped inside a well.

    ”We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 11:33 a.

    m. “A father and his son were called to drain a well, they had successfully drained it.

    ”But, the son went back into the well to clear it when he was trapped and suffocated.

    “His father went after him to rescue him, when he also got trapped and suffocated due to the lack of oxygen inside the well”, Abdullahi said.

    He said the victims were however brought out of the well unconscious and later confirmed dead.

    Abdullahi said that their corpses were handed over to Insp Felix Gowok of Wudil model police station.

    He said the cause of the incident was lack of oxygen.

    Kano Fire Service saves 79 lives, property worth N27.6m in July

    The Kano State Fire Service saved 79 lives and property worth N27.6 million from 32 fire incidents in the month of July. This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi on Friday in Kano. Abdullahi said that 12 people, however, lost their lives and property worth N10.3million were destroyed by fire during the period under review.

    He said the service responded to 65 rescue calls and 12 false alarms from residents of the state.

    The spokesperson urged the general public to handle fire with care to prevent outbreaks and also cautioned  motorists to abide by traffic laws to avoid accidents especially during rainy season.

    A 25-year-old man, Ghaddafi Saleh, has died inside main gutter at Tarauni Zaria Road by Veterinary Hospital in Kano.

    This is contained in a statement issued by Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, on Wednesday in Kano.

    He said, “We received an emergency call at about 7:26am from one Malam Abdulkadir.

    “We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 7:34a.m.’’ He said the victim was, however, brought out of the gutter unconscious and later confirmed dead.

    The PRO said his corpse was handed over to Insp.

    Bashir Abdullahi of Zaria Road Police Division.

    Abdullahi said the cause of the incident was the heavy rainfall of last Sunday.

    Kano State Fire Service said fire had destroyed a store and toilet at the Staff Primary School, Bayero University Kano (BUK) old site in Kano.

    This is contained in a statement by the  Public Relations Officer of the service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday in Kano.

    He said the incident occurred on Tuesday evening.

    According to him,  “we received a distress call at about 05:53 p.m. from one Halliru Bello and immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 5:58 p.m to stop fire from spreading to the other classes.

    “A ground floor building of about 200 by 200ft used as a staff children primary school, one block containing Headmaster’s office, men staff room, women staff room where slightly burnt while one store and one toilet was completely razed by the inferno.

    “The cause of the fire is under investigation,” he said.(

    Kano Fire Service saves 135 lives, N34.6m property

    The Kano State Fire Service says it saved  135 lives and property worth N34.6 million from 42 fire incidents in June.

    This is contained in a statement signed by the  Public Relations Officer of the service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, in Kano.

    Abdullahi said 24 people, however, died and property worth N13 million were estimated to have been destroyed by fire during the period.

    According to him, the service responded to 77 rescue calls and 17 false alarms from residents of the state.

    The spokesperson attributed the fires to careless use of sub-standard electrical appliances.

    He advise the general public to handle fires with care to avoid inferno, as Sallah  celebrations approached.

    Abdullahi also urged  them to abide by traffic laws to avoid road accidents during the celebrations.

    11-year-old boy drowns in an open water in Kano

    An 11-year-old boy, Ibrahim Ali, has drowned in an open water at Gunduwawa junction in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano state.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Friday in Kano.

    Abdullahi said the incident occurred on June 10.

    “We received an emergency call at about 10:33 a.m. from one Ibrahim Burga and we sent our rescue team to the scene at about 10:45 a.m’’, saying the boy was brought out of the water unconscious and was later confirmed dead.

    Abdullahi said the corpse has been handed over to the ward head of Gunduwawa, Sa’adu Ahmed.

    In another development, a 21-year-old man, Shehu Shua’ibu, was said to have been drowned in an open water at Kurna Tudun Rugudi in Ungogo Local Government Area.

    The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, said the Kano State Fire Service, which indicated “We received an emergency call at about 03:22 p.m. from one Dahiru Abdullahi and we sent our rescue team to the scene at about 04:35 p.m.”

    A Fire Service official said that Shua’ibu was brought out of the water unconscious and was later confirmed dead.

    Abdullahi said the corpse has been handed over to ward head of Tudun Fulani, Rabiu Abubakar.

    Also in Kano, the State Fire Service said it has rescued a two-year-old cat which fell inside a well at Medile transformer line in Kumbotso Local Government Area.

    According to an official statement, “we received an emergency call on Friday morning at about 10:36 a.m. from Ibrahim Abdullahi, and our rescue team was sent to the scene nine minutes after.’’

    It said the cat was rescued alive and handed over to the owner, Ibrahim Abdullahi. (

    Fire kills woman, baby, in Kano

    Tragedy struck on Thursday at the Gandun Albasa-Bala Burodo line community, a Kano municipality, when a 35-year-old mother, Maryam Nura, and her three-year-old son, died from fire that razed a building they were dwelling in.

    The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Friday in Kano.

    Abdullahi explained that the incident happened on Thursday night.

    “We received a distress call at about 2:07 a.m. from one Ibrahim Ashiru and immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 2:11 a.m,” he said.

    He said “the building, a five-room bungalow of about 75ft by 75ft in dimension, was completely razed down by the inferno.”

    Abdullahi said though the victims were rescued unconscious and handed over to Insp Shehu Lawan of Kwali Police Station, who rushed them to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where the doctors on duty confirmed them dead.

    4-year-old girl drowns in well in Kano

    Tragedy struck residents of Kofar Waika by Masallacin Karmawi, Kano, when a four-year-old girl drowned inside a well.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi on Tuesday in Kano.

    Abdullahi said the incident occurred on Monday afternoon.

    “We received an emergency call at about 02:05p.m. from one Alkasim Ibrahim and we sent our rescue team to the scene at about 02:20p.m,” he said.

    He added that the little girl who was brought out of the well unconscious was later confirmed dead.

    Abdullahi said the little girl’s corpse has been handed over to the ward head of Kofar Waika, Isma’ila  Yusuf.

    Abdullahi said the incident was being investigated.(

    Kano State Fire Service saves 410 lives, property worth N490.6 m in 4 months

    The Kano State Fire Service saved 410 lives and property, worth N490.6 million, in 489 fire incidents recorded in the state between January and April, 2022.

    Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the service, gave the statistics in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Kano.

    He said that the fire service responded to 303 rescue calls, while 94 calls were discovered to be false alarms from residents of the state.

    According to him, 59 persons lost their lives and property, worth N189.5 million, were destroyed by fire during the period under review.

    “In the first quarter across the 27 fire stations in the state, we rescued 24 people that fell into an open water wells, while 13 others were trapped in wells.

    “The service also attended to 245 road accidents, while other rescued victims were from collapsed buildings, electrocution, and pit toilets, among others,” he said.

    The spokesman attributed the fire incidents to careless handling of cooking gas and the use of sub-standard electrical appliances.

    While urging the people to handle naked fire with care to prevent fire outbreaks, Abdullahi cautioned motorists to obey traffic regulations to avoid road crashes.

    The spokesman also charged parents to be vigilant and monitor their wards, especially when swimming in ponds or playing in dangerous places.

    A 30-year-old man, Haruna Abdullahi and 45 year-old Adamu Danjummai died in a pit toilet at Aku Village in Gaya Local Government Area of  Kano State while making efforts to recover a cell phone from a pit toilet.

    This was disclosed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on in Kano.

    Abdullahi said the incident occurred on Sunday morning.

    “We received an emergency call from Gaya fire station at about 07:15 a.m. from one Ali Ahmed, that two men had been trapped inside a pit toilet.

    “The men were trying to bring out a cellphone that fell inside the pit toilet.

    “We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 07:25 a.m,’’ he said.

    He said the victims were, however, brought out of the pit latrine unconscious and later confirmed  dead while their corpses were handed over to the village head of Aku, Adamu Isyaku.

    The Public Relations Officer said  that Abdullahi entered inside the toilet with intention to pick his cellphone when he fell inside and got trapped,  his brother Danjummai went inside to rescue him and he too got trapped.

    He said the cause of the incident was the use of cellphone in a toilet.(
