    Ogun PRP Gov. candidate, Bamgbose, dies a week after declaration

     The Ogun Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Prof. David Bamgbose, is dead.

    Bamgbose, a Professor of Education, succumbed on Friday night at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Abeokuta, while receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

    His death has been confirmed by his personal assistant,  Mr Oduntan Olayemi.

    The News Agency of Nigeria   recalls that Bamgbose was unveiled in Abeokuta las Saturday as the  PRP’s governorship candidate by the, Mr Samson Ogunsanya, the party chair.

    He was a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before he stepped down for Mr Ladi Adebutu who later emerged the party’s candidate.

    Olayemi explained that Bamgbose, who had on Thursday complained of tiredness, was taken to a private hospital from where he was referred to the Federal Medical Central (FMC), Abeokuta.

    “He complained of tiredness yesterday (Thursday) and we decided to take him to a hospital around Olomoore where we were referred to the FMC for further checks.

    “We opted for the hospital at Lantoro area because of the urgency of the case and he was admitted at the Emergency Ward where he was administered oxygen till today (Friday).

    “I got back to the hospital this morning and I met him breathing too fast and heavy.

    “It was at where I went to get him some prescribed medication when I got a call that he had passed on, ” Olayemi said.

    Bamgbose left behind a his wife and six children.

    The unexpected happened in Ogun on Friday as loyalists of progressives politicians defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    In his remarks, PDP’s deputy governorship candidate for 2023, Abdulkabir Akinlade said the PDP would defeat the APC in 2023 and also send it to its early retirement in Ogun. On his part, Adebutu said that he would tackle insecurity, unemployment, bad roads and ensure provision of quality healthcare in the state.

    Adebutu urged aggrieved members of the APC and members of other opposition parties to join the PDP in defeating APC at the next election.

    2023: Tinubu, Atiku, others to feature in Keffi polo tournament- Wadada

    APC and PDP Presidential Candidates, Sen. Bola Tinubu and ex-Vice- President, Atiku Abubakar, respectively, are expected to feature in the forthcoming National Unity Polo Tournament, in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

    The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that the four-day event is being organised by Keffi Polo Ranch, supported by Heritage Bank. The polo tournament is expected to bring together other political gladiators, royal fathers and captains of industry in the country.

    Founder and promoter of the Ranch, Mr Ahmed Wadada, made the disclosure in an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Abuja.

    Wadada explained that the tournament scheduled to hold on Sept. 8 to 11, would serve as a veritable platform that will deepen understanding among the presidential candidates of all the political parties and their  running mates.

    This, Wadada said, was with a view to ensuring rancour-free campaigns for the 2023 General Elections.

    He said, ”already the political atmosphere in the country is charged ahead of the commencement of campaigns by all presidential candidates.

    ”It might hot up in the next couple of months, hence the need for the tournament in order to douse tension in the political space.

    A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue, Mr Philip Wuhe, has defected to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

    Wuhe said this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Makurdi.

    The Independent National Electoral Commision (INEC) says no fewer than 13 political parties have fielded candidates for the 2023 governorship election in Katsina State.

    Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, the INEC’s Head of Department (HoD), Elections and Political Party Monitoring (EPM), disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Katsina.

    Ibrahim added that the names of all the gubernatorial candidates and their deputies were pasted at the Katsina State INEC’s headquarters.

    “The political parties include Accord Party (A), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), African Democratic Party  (ADP) and All Progressive Congress (APC).

    “Others are Allied People’s Movement (APM), Boot Party (BP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

    “Also, People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) are included.

    “Out of the 18 political parties that fielded candidates for one position or the other, only APGA, Action Alliance (AA), National Rescue Party (NRM), Young Progressive Party (YPP) and All People’s Party (APP) are not contesting for governorship seat,” said the official.

    Ibrahim explained that out of the 18 political parties, five are not participating for the Senatorial positions, adding that only six are participating in all the three Senatorial Zones.

    While four parties are not participating at all for the House of Representatives election, only APC, PDP and NNPP have submitted the complete 15 contestants each, he explained.

    According to him, 12 political parties fielded candidates for the state’s assembly elections, saying only three parties presented candidates from all the 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
