APC officially flags off Sanwo-Olu’s re-election campaign

The APC Governorship Campaign Group in Lagos State on Wednesday, officially flagged off the re-election campaign of the incumbent governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Speaking at a media briefing to herald the flag-off at Ikeja, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso said the theme of the 2023 re-election campaign for Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat is: ”A Greater Lagos Rising!

    ”.

Omotoso said the theme indicated the continuation of what the present administration promised in 2019 and had been implementing.

”We promised our people A Greater Lagos.

What do we see around us?

Abundant evidence of a new city rising from the womb of time.

We do not make a false claim of having reached the zenith of our journey.

”Our contextual usage of the word is as an adjective that suggests an upward swing, an increase and an upward movement.

These are the signs the people of Lagos state can see all around the state,” he said.

According to him, the campaign is not about Sanwo-Olu and his team alone but it is a tribute to all the youths who are putting Lagos on the global map.

He said the campaign was a celebration of the collective progress made in the last three and half years, against all odds.

The commissioner said that from the social motivational perspective, the idea of rising captured the essentialism of the spirit of thousands of ‘creative and tech rebels’ who call Lagos home.

He said that the creative and technology experts were changing the false narratives about Nigeria with music, movies, fashion, sports and technological innovations, hence, putting Lagos state on the global map.

According to him, they are the ones helping to announce the rising of Lagos city on distant shores, they are the Made-In-Lagos brands to whom the campaign is also dedicated.

Also speaking, the Director-General of, the Sanwo-Olu-Hamzat Campaign Committee, Sen. Ganiyu Solomon said that Sanwo-Olu deserved a second term as he had touched on every aspect of his administration’s T.

    H.E.M.E.S developmental agenda.

”It is during his time that we witnessed the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was during this time that the EndSARS situation also occurred, and all these did not stop him from performing and from ensuring that the T.

H.E.M.E.S agenda is followed,” Solomon said.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Sam Egube said that Lagos had not made any mistake in choosing the right governor.

“The greater Lagos is indeed rising with Sanwo-Olu. ”When you hear our leaders in the entertainment industry shout for joy, then you know that today that scripture is fulfilled, that when the righteous are in authority that the people shout for joy.

When we see those things, indeed, we say that Lagos is true, rising.

”When we see the health facility, the Mother and Child care centres in Epe, in Ajah, in Badagry, in Igando come alive, you cannot but agree with me that the Greater Lagos which we talked about, is indeed rising.

“The state is moving in a right direction.

    This is the right decision.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has the eye for talents and ability to manage people.

“This is the time for us to vote for someone that knows the way.

It is good you retraced your steps.

I must tell you that you have made the right decision.

“It is people that make towns, cities and countries great.

I am excited that you have seen the reason to support Asiwaju,” Hamzat said.

In his welcome address, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the Lagos state APC Chairman, thanked the decampees for returning to  the  progressives family.

Ojelabi said that the APC-led administration in Lagos state had prioritised welfare of the residents and had improved infrastructure in the state.

“Thank you for finding it necessary to be part of the progressive family and process of developing Lagos state.

“You have taken a right decision by coming home to be part of the process.

    This is your party.

You are not going to regret this step,” Ojelabi said.

The APC boss urged  residents of the state  to use their votes to fast-track more progress and development in the state by voting APC candidates in the 2023 general elections.

Earlier,  Mr Idowu Daramola, who led the decampees  to the party,  said that the group was happy to return to the APC.

Daramola also added that the emergence of Sen. Bola Tinubu as  Presidential Candidate of the APC, equally changed the political equation, which made the group to retrace their steps  to the ruling party to support Tinubu.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone that is a Lagos resident and the Yoruba nation to give support to Tinubu.

“We have told everybody that we needed to go back because we discovered that we were going in the wrong direction,” he said.

Other leaders of the decampees,  Mr Tunde Kazeem, the South Africa Coordinator, Mr Ahmed Mefeola, Chairman, Jandor Legacy Forum, Mr Kunle Dabiri, Adeola Osundairo, Jumoke Fakoya, Fredrick Falana and  Temitope Adebanjo all pledged their allegiance to the APC.

NAN reports that the decampees, who came into the APC secretariat in white and pink T-Shirts with inscription of Jandor4Governor, removed their T-shirts publicly to unveil another worn underneath with inscription of All4BAT ’23 and BOSS ’23. The reception  was attended by members of the Lagos APC state executive committee, members of Lagos APC Campaign council and other chieftains of the party.

He commended the youths for their participation at the walk,  adding that with that, they had shown that they were part of the process of building a new nation, growing the economy and banishing insecurity in the nation.

2023: Sanwo-Olu urges women to vote for competence, precedents

2023: Sanwo-Olu urges women to vote for competence, precedents L-R: Wife of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat; Lagos Deputy Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Thursday urged women to vote a candidate with competence and precedents to lead Nigeria.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat,  gave the advice at  the closing ceremony of the 22nd National Women’s Conference, with the theme: ”Spring Forth, Stand Out”, organised by the Committee Of Wives Of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) in Lagos.

He urged women to use their power as nation builders to restore Nigeria to the path of developmental trend, by voting the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Sen. Bola Tinubu.

”Woman are extremely significant,  ‘no woman, no nation,  so what that means is that if we want to build that nation, we must go out, pull our husbands, our cousins, our children to go and vote for Tinubu,” the governor said.

He said that Tinubu  revived the economy of Lagos state from bankruptcy in 1999 as governor.

According to him, women should mobilise to vote for Tinubu who has a track record of excellent performance.

”We are a nation of history and part of our problem as a nation is that we have forgotten our history; is that we have westernised ourselves; is that we have broken our developmental trend.

”How do we bring it back?

We must bring it back by allowing people who have precedents to do the work.

It is as simple as that.

”Look at how beautiful and impactful this conference had been.

It is because everybody came together to work hard.

So, if we want a nation our own children and grandchildren will be happier than us, it is time to vote for a man who has done it before.

”There are no two ways about it; we must look at what people have done and how they have done it.

People forget that in 1999, Lagos state was bankrupt; this state does not have a single ambulance in 1999. ”Only seven per cent of the roads in Lagos state were tarred in 1999. So, a lot has happened and the foundation was laid by the man,  Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

”We are not being sentimental; we are just saying let us move our country forward.

We belong in the nation of the disciplined and respected not just we go somewhere and they are saying Nigerians should move to one side.

    No!

    ,” he said.

The governor said that Nigeria and Nigerians remained very important and the future of the black man in the world rest on Nigeria, hence, we should not miss the opportunity of making the country greater.

In her remarks, COWLSO Chairman, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu said that she was confident that the discussions in the conference would elevate the status of women to ”spring forth” and ”stand out” in all spheres of life.

Sanwo-Olu, who urged the Federal Government to address Nigeria’s porous borders and other security challenges, also said that women had a key role to play in tackling insecurity in the country.

According to her, it is time for women to lend their voice to the security issues in the country and not leave it only for the men.

    ”Everyone should be security conscious.

When you see something, say something and do something.

”From discussions at the conference, we were told that we have over 261 borders, out of which 137 are porous.

”To the wives of security personnel attending this conference, it is time to put the word out there and pass across the message to our spouses to ensure that this country is safe; to ensure that poverty is eradicated.

”It is only when poverty is eradicated; it is only when there is security that people will want to come to Nigeria and invest.

”Every woman here is a stakeholder with regards to security.

Our voice is what we have and we must use it constructively; to brainstorm, to speak out, and to stand out,” she said.

Sanwo-Olu also urged women to embrace forward thinking mindset and unite to move forward.

At the ceremony, a posthumous award was presented to the late South-West APC Women Leader, Mrs Kemi Nelson, while other award recipients were the Wife of the First Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Abimbola Jakande, and media personality, Funmi Iyanda.

Earlier at the Gala Night, several interesting prizes were won, while three lucky participants won the star prizes.

They were Mrs Abiola Liadi, a retired permanent secretary in the Lagos state Civil Service, who won a Turkish Return Ticket; and Mrs Adebisi Ikusawe, a civil servant with the Lagos Island Local Government, who won a brand new GAC Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

Also, 74-year-old Alhaja Olushola Oyedele (a.

LASG provides functional, efficient and affordable internet service

The Lagos State Government says it is placing high premium on 6000 fibre optic cable, aimed at improving access to functional, efficient and affordable internet services.

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu  stated this on Tuesday at the 2022 Lagos state Infrastructure Maintenance And Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) stakeholders’ conference at Victoria Island, Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Conference had the theme: “Transforming Lagos State into a Smart City Hub in Africa – The Government’s Infrastructure Approach.

” Sanwo-Olu who was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat,  assured that his administration would leverage on the deployment of cutting edge technology to create improved and effective governance to the smart city project.

The governor noted that in achieving a 21st century economy, it required technology, especially the availability of an efficient and reliable internet service.

“The bedrock of a functional smart city is adequate and functional infrastructure.

“We are committed to improving the provision of adequate infrastructure to fast track the smart city project in order to optimise the limitless opportunities of a fully digitalised economy,” he said.

According to him, the widespread application of technology will create opportunities and enhance socio-economic growth.

Sanwo-Olu recounted some of the successes of leveraging on technology in furtherance of building a smart Lagos city that was globally competitive.

He said that the re-launch of the state residents’ card was part of the ongoing efforts to realise the smart city dream.

“The new residents card is an upgraded version of the former ordinary plastic to a smart card with embedded features for multipurpose uses in addition to identification purpose.

“The creation of a seamless payment system for our multimodal transport system with the launch of cowry card.

“And the digitisation of key government services, processes and procedures to improve efficiency, accountability and transparency,” he said.

The governor called for support, partnership and collaboration of the private sector in order to transform the state to a smart city hub.

Mr Adeleke Adewolu, the Executive Commissioner (Stakeholder Management), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said that Lagos State occupied a unique position as the berth-point of the six submarine cables serving Nigeria.

‘’It is therefore geographically immune from the challenge faced by other states in the hinterlands vis-à-vis access to broadband capacity,’’ he said.

According to him, Lagos state is also the “brain-box” of technology innovation with the several data centers it hosts.

The commissioner, however, said that Lagos state, like the rest of Nigeria, was still far from achieving its full ICT infrastructure potentials.

He said that Nigeria still had huge infrastructure deficit and needed over 120,000 additional kilometres of fiber, from current figure of less than 60,000 kilometres, and about 40,000 additional Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) to meet the NNBP targets by year 2025. Adewolu advised LASIMRA to assist in maximising opportunities from the NNBP for Lagos State by providing supportive permitting regimes.

“The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria empowers states to approve physical infrastructure projects.

“Sadly, many States have weaponised this power for short-term revenue purposes.

This needs to change, and Lagos state needs to take the lead.

“The economic activities engendered by an increased broadband penetration coupled with the consequent increase in taxable revenues from increased business activities far outweigh the short term revenues which inhibit the accelerated rollout of broadband infrastructure,” he said.

He encouraged LASIMRA to do more to streamline processes and ensure faster processing of infrastructure permits so as to encourage infrastructure deployment in the state.

Earlier in her address, Mrs Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the General Manager, LASIMRA, said that the theme of the programme was in line with efforts of the Lagos state government to position the state as a Smart City. She said that the theme was also in line with key initiatives around the utility infrastructural space and areas that could be leveraged by stakeholders to enhance the execution of the smart City initiatives.

Coker-Odusote said that government was playing the role of coordination and funder by bringing different interests and stakeholders together.

She said that the move was to provide funding for digital infrastructure and demonstrator projects by ensuring that common standards and regulations were in place.
