Presidential poll: Atedo Peterside’s ANAP, a transactional outfit -Aniebonam

Dr Boniface Aniebonam, Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustee of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has described Atedo Peterside’s  ANAP Foundation as transactional outfit following its  recent projection of the 2023 presidential election.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that ANAP Foundation had put the 2023 presidential election as a three-horse race.

It said the race was between the candidates of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi; All Progressives Congress, Sen. Bola Tinubu; and Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, after a new poll concluded in early September.

According to the result of the poll which was commissioned by the ANAP Foundation and conducted by NOI Polls Ltd., Obi will lead the race with 21 per cent of votes in the poll.

The outcome showed that Obi’s votes would give him an eight per cent lead over APC’s Tinubu and PDP’s Abubakar who each got 13 per cent of the votes to end up as joint second in the poll.

The presidential candidate of the NNPP, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, was fourth in the poll with three per cent of the votes.

Aniebonam in a statement on Friday in Lagos,  described such projection poll as false and deceitful.

“What should worry Nigerians is the age of Atedo Peterside to be associated and directly involved in falsehood and deciet of the public in the name of politics.

“Peterside’s ANAP may be simply described as a transactional organisation.

“We can only but put them to prayers so that God may help them to find food through honourable and genuine means.

“The fact is obvious that NNPP  is the party to beat  in 2023.” He said that the emergence of Kwankwaso as NNPP presidential candidate had changed the political narratives of Nigeria.

“Watch out as we coast to victory in 2023,” he added.

ANAP Foundation presidential poll misleading, inaccurate -NNPP/Kwankwaso campaign council

The Campaign Council of  New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Presidential Candidate Sen.  Rabiu Kwankwaso,  says  projections in the presidential poll by ANAP Foundation are self seeking, self serving, misleading, inaccurate and laced with partisanship.

The spokesperson of the council, Mr Ladipo Johnson while reacting to the poll, impunged the sampling methods of the data collection which projected Kwankwaso as coming fourth in the 2023 general elections.

The presidential candidate of the NNPP, Kwankwaso, was fourth in the poll  with three per cent of the votes.

Johnson described the projection as bogus and misleading.

He said that he watched the interview on Arise Television programme earlier in the morning when the Chairman of ANAP Foundation, Mr Atedo Peterside could not adequately respond to, or substantiate “the sampling method used in arriving at the obviously unverifiable or concocted data”.

Johnson said: “His defence was rather unclear and begging the question whether the poll was authentic by telling Nigerians or whoever is not comfortable with the outcome to go do their own poll!

“I would take it with a pinch of salt.

    This is a known template.

In this season we should expect many more dubious sounding opinions, polls etc.

“Unfortunately there are many who for parochial reasons are drawing back the development of our democracy, due to various propaganda tricks.

” According to him, the data purportedly relied upon did not go far enough in an empirical manner to show the ethnic and religious backgrounds of those polled.

He added that there was no indication as to whether those polled were artisans, educated or non educated , professional or non professional Nigerians among others.

“The poll is to say the least bogus and an attempt to create the impression that the LP candidate has the  potential to succeed when in actual fact, the reality on ground is totally different.

“This is similar to a misleading poll they conducted before the Ekiti election,” he said.

According to him, in any event, the poll will succeed in giving their supporters temporary euphoria.

“On our part,  we are building momentum at the grassroots level round the country and look forward to Sept. 28 when we will openly bring our positive message for a new and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen will have the opportunity for a better life, to the people of the country.

“The NNPP insists that the complete process of the poll should be published if not, the poll cannot be taken seriously,” Johnson said.

Gov. Zulum directs immediate unsealing of NNPP’s office in Maiduguri

The Borno Urban Development Board unsealed the Maiduguri office of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) on Friday on the orders of Gov. Babagana Zulum.

The board invited the police to the office on Thursday to ensure the proper sealing of the party secretariat which it said contravened the law as it is sited in a residential area.

Gov. Zulum, however, overruled the board and argued that its action was “wrongly timed’’ as the NNPP presidential candidate, Dr Musa Kwankoso is scheduled to visit Borno and the party office on Saturday.

Confirming the reopening of the office, NNPP’s chairman in Borno, Malam Mohammed Mustafa, said Prof. Zulum’s intervention had brought smiles to the faces of members.

“We are now in our office making the necessary preparations to host our presidential candidate, Dr Musa Kwankoso on Saturday,’’ he told the News Agency of Nigeria .

“Kwankwaso will be coming to commission the state office and hold talks with party stakeholders,’’ Mustafa said.

Special Adviser to Gov. Zulum on Communications and Strategy, Malam Isa Gusau, also confirmed in Maiduguri on Friday that the governor directed the immediate unsealing of the NNPP’s office.

“The people of Borno are aware that in the last three years, the board has been carrying out series of reforms.

“This has included the sealing of buildings belonging to individuals, corporate bodies and even some government institutions for non-compliance with Maiduguri’s town planning procedures.

“The board claimed to have acted in the same regard by sealing the NNPP’s headquarters for wrongful conversion of a residential building to a party office.

“Gov. Zulum, however, regarded the board’s action in the case of the NNPP’s office as that of wrong timing.

“Zulum believes that no matter the justification, the board’s decision is bound to be given political misinterpretation which could heat up the polity and cause needless distractions.

“The governor believes that reversing the board’s decision as it affects the NNPP is in the overall public interest of peace,’’ Isa stated.

Police seal off NNPP secretariat in Borno

The Police Command in Borno has sealed off the State Secretariat of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

A correspondent, who visited the secretariat located at Abbaganaram area in Maiduguri, met it sealed with Armoured Personnel Carrier vehicle parked at the entrance.

NAN also met a detachment of Policemen around the building.

Alhaji Mohammed Mustafa, Chairman of the state chapter of the party, while reacting to the development, described it as “surprising”.

“Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, our presidential candidate, is expected to visit Maiduguri on Saturday, but we woke up today (Thursday) to see Policemen with Amoured Personnel Carrier stationed in front of our secretariat.

“The Policemen have prevented party members from going in.

“The party occupied this secretariat three months ago and it was expected to be formally inaugurated by our presidential candidate on Saturday.

He was also expected to hold a meeting with party stakeholders in the state there.

“We have gone to the Police Command headquarters where we were informed that there was a letter from the state urban planning and development board claiming that the office was located in a residential area and that was why they were ordered to seal it.

” Mustafa said that the offices of all leading political parties in Maiduguri, particularly APC and PDP, were situated in residential areas and wondered why that of NNPP was singled out.

“To me, this sealing of office is motivated by political reasons.

They just want to prevent us from hosting our presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“The excuse that our office is cited in a residential area is frivolous.

It is just aimed at undermining the efforts of our party and nothing more than that.

“By the law establishing the urban development board, if a residential area is converted into some purposes other than what is approved by government, the person concerned is served notice and given a minimum of six months,” he said.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Borno, Mr Abdu Umar, simply said that the problem is between the party and the Borno urban development board.

“The Police are there to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order,” he told NAN.

Meanwhile, a letter on the issue from the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board, titled “Contravention Notice” and signed by one Kaka Malam Umar, said that converting the structure to a party office had contravened the law.

The letter, which was sighted by NAN, was copied to the Police and the DSS.

“The Board has observed, with dismay, that you have converted a residential building into office building which is contrary to sections 43 and 50 of Law No.1 vol.

27 of 2001. “Therefore, you are directed to revert the building to its former state with immediate effect .

“Failure to comply, the board will not hesitate to seal the property and recommend for revocation of its title document including prosecution,” the letter read in parts.
