NYCN tasks youths on national development

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has urged Nigerian youths to look beyond the problems and challenges facing the country and contribute their quota.

Mr Solomon Adodo, the National President of NYCN made the call at an ocassion to mark this year’s International Youth Day (IYD) on Wednesday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the theme of this year’s celebration was “Youth Engagement for Global Action ”.

The theme seeks to highlight how young people could be engaged at the local, national and global levels by national and multilateral institutions.

The IYD was also to shed light on the need to enable the engagement of youths  by making local, national and global institutions more inclusive for the purpose of strengthening their capacity to achieve global action.

“If the youth allow themselves to be used as tools to bring the government down, they will bring the nation down as well.

“Let us see how we can contribute our quota to national development. Let us put aside our ethnic, political, religious differences and have one culture and one political party which is the development of Nigeria.

” Let us unite to build the Nigerian economy.

“The developed nations like China and the United Statesthat we run to for loans and other assistance did not fall from the sky, rather they are harnessing their potential and utilising them.

He used the occasion to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for the recent approval of N75 billion for the establishment of the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund.

Adodo noted that the NYCN would continue to support the government in its bid to find lasting solutions to the problems bedeviling the country.

“The recent approval of the N75 billion for the establishment of the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund is one of those programmes of government through which the Nigerian youth can harness their potential and translate it into productivity.”

Nigerian youths appreciate FG’s N75bn Investment Fund

Nigerian youths on Monday presented letter of appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari

through the Minister of Youth and sports, Mr Sunday Dare, for the approval of 75 billion investment fund for them.

Mr Sukubo Sara-Igbesukubo, the President of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), who presented the letter in Abuja,

thanked the president for the laudable act of establishing the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund with an initial capital of N75 billion.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Federal Government in July approved the establishment of N75 billion

Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) for three years, following a memo presented by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development.

The NYIF is to serve as a sort of youth bank that will fund and support the innovative ideas, skills, talents and enterprise of the Nigerian youth.

Sara-Igbesukubo said that the fund was a special window for the Nigerian youths to access financial facilities for their entrepreneurial ideas,

    innovations and projects.

He added that “the laudable milestone has shown that the present administration has the interest of Nigerian youths at heart.

“Today, the hope of millions of talented, hardworking and creative young Nigerians is being restored.”

Dare, who was represented by Mr Gabriel Aduda, the Permanent Secretary in the youth and sports ministry, said that

the fund would enable the country to go beyond empowerment to investment.

He said that the fund would help to boost youth investment in the country, noting that the ministry would work with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)

to evolve modalities that would ensure that the fund was used for the investment it was meant for.

“The youths will be involved in the decision making as they will be in the forefront to achieve the goal of the fund,’’ he said.

Dare said that Nigerian youths did not lack ideas but have not had enough opportunities to utilise the talents.

He said that “we are hoping that with the fund, the youths will put every effort to get it running.”

The minister advised youths to be more involved in social media to be abreast with current developments in the world.

NYCN decries lack of constituency projects in Nasarawa

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), an umbrella body of all youth organisations in Nigeria, has decried lack of constituency project in Nasarawa West Senatorial District since 2011.

The NYCN Chairman, Keffi Chapter, Alhaji Mohammad Idris, made the assertion in a statement made available to newsmen, on Sunday in Keffi.

Idris alleged that in spite of the billions of Naira released for some constituency projects in the senatorial district since 2011, there was nothing on ground to justify it.

He emphasised the need for social infrastructures such as potable water supply, electricity, health care facilities, good road networks in almost all the five Local Governments that made up the senatorial district.

He lamented that the Federal road that passed through Keffi central roundabouts to old Nasarawa road which was constructed in the Second Republic had deteriorated.

Idris also stressed the need for the provision of motorised boreholes, construction of rural road, provision of farm implements and input to farmers to boost agricultural activities in the district.

The youth leader, however, called on Senator Abdullahi Adamu, representing Nasarawa West, to be proactive by initiating and bringing meaningful constituency projects to the senatorial district.

Idris also urged Adamu, who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Agriculture, to initiate empowerment training programmes for youths and women in various agricultural value chains in the senatorial district.

He stressed the need for the lawmaker to use his committee and provide agricultural equipments for farmers and facilitates construction of rural roads to enable farmers transport their farm products to urban centre at ease.

He also used the occasion to call on Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State to address incidence of land encroachment in some Local Government areas of the state, especially Keffi council.

Idris also advised the governor to ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the Investigative Panel on the illegal sales of Keffi Local Government property.

He recalled that former Gov. Tanko Al-Makura out of concern for the development of Keffi in 2016, set up an investigative panel to investigate the illegal sales of some property belonging to the local government.

Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State to reward members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who contributed to the party’s victory during the 2019 elections. The Chairman of NYCN, Keffi chapter, Alhaji Mohammad Idris, gave the advice in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Keffi. NYCN pledges to partner govts, move Nigeria forward

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has expressed commitment to work closely with governments at all levels across the country to move the nation to a greater height.

The National President of NYCN, Mr Solomon Adodo, said this while inaugurating the State Executives of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) on Wednesday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that NRM is a new political party registered by Independent National Electoral Commission, to provide the country a facelift.

He said that the vision of the council was to partner with political parties to foster democratic growth and bring about sustainable dividends of democracy in the country.

Adodo said, “our vision of strong partnership with the political body in Nigeria is gradually blossoming and seeing light of the day.

“When we have one goal to its development, economic growth and job creation, you will discover that there will be no more walls among political parties.

“Such party will mean economic growth, wealth for all citizens, free education, quality health care, affordable housing of best standards, in line with international practices of cutting-edge nations.

“As a body we have vowed to partner with governments, where they are doing well, we will commend them, where they are not doing so, we will advise, support and assist them.

“This does not topple the fact that we should not acknowledge where we are today and also the fact that this is not where we should be as a nation.”

He urged young people to always come together to harness their potentials and translate same into productive ventures, no matter their challenges to promote youth development.

He commended the Federal Government for signing into law the Bill of  Not-Too-Young-to-Run, saying “we are preparing the Nigerian youths for tomorrow leadership, as active and intelligent citizens of the country.”

He further urged political parties not to always relegate young people, but create enabling environment for them to contribute their quota towards tackling insecurity and reduce unemployment in the country.

In the same vein, the State Chairman of NRM, Mr Chukwuka Odimbu, said although various political parties were registered to participate in elections, the movement would focus on youth development.

“As we all know that there were various political parties in the past, but as of today June 24, 2020 we just have about 17 or 18 political parties.

“By the grace of God we will stand out to be the best in the country with or without the support of godfathers, with or without support of political big-wigs.

“We believe that as youths of common pains and unity we can always make Nigeria great,” Odimbu said.

Also speaking, the Administrative Secretary of NRM, Mr Dirisu Isah, said that party would engage the youth to achieve the desired goal.

“We are here to inaugurate members of the executives; NRM is a political party for the younger generation that think of proper ways for moving the county forward,” Isah said.

High points of the event was the inauguration of the state executive, constitution and manifesto of NRM by Adodo.
