Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Saturday inaugurated the Gashua ultra-modern market constructed at the cost of over N2.4 billion.
Speaking at the occasion in Gashua, Buni said that the market would boost commercial activities, create jobs and enhance income generation.
He listed the structures in the market to include 505 shops, administrative block, mosque, refuse bank, perimeter fencing, internal roads, drains, water facility, banks, fire station and police outpost.
“As you are aware, the Gashua Market is one of the four modern markets this administration is constructing, with others in Nguru, Damaturu and Potiskum.
“The state government has also awarded the contract for the construction of another one in Geidam.
“I am glad that we have completed the Gashua and Nguru markets, while that of Damaturu and Potiskum are at advanced stages of completion.
“This market is already registered as a limited liability company with a full-fledged Board of Directors.
“The day-to-day running of the market is to be conducted by a General Manager to be supported by Management Staff,” Buni said.
The governor charged the board and management of the market to work in harmony to ensure proper utilization of all the facilities.
“I wish to draw your attention to taking all necessary measures in preventing leakages in the revenue collection drive and ensure that all revenues generated go into government coffers,” he said.
Buni announced that the market had been named after Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, a native of Gashua, in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the development of the state.
Similarly, the governor named the main road from the City Centre Roundabout to the College of Education in Gashua as Umar Suleiman Way.
In his remarks, Lawan thanked Buni for the honour, saying it would spur him to attract more development projects to the state.
He announced a donation of N200 million to 400 traders in Yobe North Senatorial District through his SAIL Foundation, to expand their businesses.
The senate president commended the governor for prudent management of the state’s resources.

Yobe Government and Green and Blue Communications & Electronics Ltd., on Wednesday signed a N3.8 billion contract for the construction of Geidam ultra-modern market.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Alhaji Barma Shetima, state Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism and Malam Kura Goni-Mama signed the contract on behalf of the state and the firm respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Shetima said that due process was followed in awarding the contract which would be completed within 12 months.
He listed the structures in the market to include administrative block, perimeter fence, gate house, road network, drains, mosque, public toilets, 500 shops, stalls, and stores.
The commissioner urged the contractor to do a good job in line with the contract agreement and specifications.
Shetima said the project was part of Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s initiative to enhance commercial activities, improve internally generated revenue and provide job opportunities in the state.
He said that a similar market project was completed in Gashua and would be inaugurated on Sept. 3, while three others in Nguru, Potiskum and Damaturu, had reached various levels of completion.
In his remarks, Goni-Mama thanked the state for awarding the contract to his company and pledged to carry out quality work within the time frame.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has pledged his government’s unwavering support to the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).
Buni made the pledge when the newly posted Controller of Corrections to the state, Yusuf Sambo, paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Damaturu.
He said the NCoS would be included in the state’s security council for synergy and proper coordination with other security organisations.
In his remarks, Sambo said inclusion of the service in the security council would facilitate intelligence sharing among sister agencies for proactive approach to possible security threats.
He noted that the service had the capacity to stabilise and change criminal behaviour of inmates and make them to become good citizens.
He therefore solicited for support and cooperation of the state to enable the Service to discharge its mandate effectively.

Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Monday enjoined women and youths to be patriotic and selfless for the development, peace and progress of the country.
Buni made the call while receiving Buni-Gubana Women and Youth Network, who paid him a courtesy call in Damaturu.
The governor also urged the Network’s members to always have the interest of Yobe at heart.
“You are the leaders of tomorrow, you should develop the spirit of patriotism and be selfless to the state and country,” he said
Gov. Buni commended the Network for the show of love and concern to his government and state.
The Coordinator of the Network, Hajiya Mairiga Umar, described the governor as the most youth and women friendly governor in Nigeria.
She said the essence of creating the network was to appreciate the gesture of the governor to women and youth in the state through dedication and selfless service.
Mairiga assured that the Network would work for the success of the administration.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Sunday approved the employment of 134 health personnel to boost healthcare delivery in the state.
Buni, in a statement by his Director-General Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed in Damaturu, said the personnel graduated from Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu.
The personnel included 67 midwives, 12 nurses and 55 community nurses.
The governor also approved the placement of 167 nursing students in the college on a monthly allowance of N10,000 each.
He said investment in the training of health personnel was necessary, in order to provide adequate and qualified manpower for various health institutions across the state.
Buni charged the new employees to be dedicated to their duties and serve the people diligently to justify government’s investment in them.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni has felicitated with the people of Yobe, as the state turns 31 years old.
Buni in a statement by his Director-General Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed on Saturday in Damaturu, commended his predecessors for their contributions towards placing the state on the path of peace and development.
The governor said each of the past leaders made generous and notable contribution in making the state what it is today, while the people extended their support and cooperations.
“As leaders of the state at various times, you have made tremendous contributions to the state that makes us all proud” he said.
He also commended the good people of the state both at home and in the diaspora, for their support and contributions to successive administrations.
“I specially commend you all for your resilience, support and cooperation in building our dear state.
“Your strong resilience has spurred this administration towards speedy building and recovery of the state after the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency,” he said.
Buni thanked Almighty Allah for the peace being enjoyed across the state, urging the people to continue praying for improved peace and security.
He said the support extended to his administration enabled government to rebuild schools, establish more health facilities, housing, road construction and completion of the cargo airport, among others.
The governor assured that his administration will continue to execute people oriented projects and programmes to improve the lives of the people.
Buni prayed for more years with improved peace, security, prosperity and speedy development of the state.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Thursday inaugurated the campaign office of Sen. Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Damaturu.
Buni, who was overwhelmed with the campaign structure, expressed optimism that APC would emerge victorious at all levels in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.
“I’m really impressed with what I saw in terms of preparations and organisations of the campaign structure here in Yobe state.

Buni also assured that people of the state would massively vote APC as usual.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Wednesday inaugurated a primary health facility at Bubaram-Bataba community in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.
The facility constructed under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aimed at enhancing access to quality healthcare service delivery at the grassroots.
Buni, represented by Dr Muhammed Gana, Commissioner for Health, said the project was facilitated by the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu.
“This is a very remote and hard-to-reach community; for ages they have been seeking for a health facility.
“The establishment of the facility aligned with Gov. Buni’s administration’s drive towards improving access to health care services through provision of primary healthcare facility in each political ward across the state.
“Most importantly it will reduce the hardship of people of this community,” he said.
Buni, therefore, urged the people to protect and maintain the facility.
The Deputy Speaker, Yobe House of Assembly, Mohammed Danchuwa lauded to the governor for his efforts towards providing basic health facilities in all the electoral wards of the state.
Danchuwa also called on residents of the community to take ownership over the facility.
Malam Usaini Salisu, one of the community members, said prior to establishment of the facility they travelled to Potiskum, a distance of about 20km to access healthcare services.

Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, the President, African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has been confered with the Nigeria Global Brand Award of the Year 2021.
Adesina received the award in Abuja at the Annual Public Lectures and Impact organised by Blueprint Newspapers, a national daily Newspapers in Nigeria.
The award was confered on him for his pragmatic and purposeful leadership among other qualities.
Mr Lamin Barrow, African Development Bank’s Director-General for Nigeria Country Department received the award on behalf of Adesina.
Barrow said the conferment of the award was a testimony of the transformation brought to the bank and Africa through the implementation of the bank’s High 5 priorities.
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, congratulated Adesina and more than 30 other Nigerians who were recognised during the ceremony.
“I believe the award will spur the recipients to continue to enhance the productivity of their respective organisations.
‘I encourage them to do more for humanity,” he said.
Mohammed Idris, the Chairman and Publisher of Blueprint Newspapers, lauded Adesina’s strides.
He said, “Adesina received the award because of his pragmatic and purposeful leadership, and the string of successes he has recorded as a national and international figure.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that AfDB has secured the largest ever general capital, from 93 billion dollars to 208 billion dollars since Adesina’s assumption of office in 2015.
Also, the bank’s High-5 operational strategy has benefited 335 million Africans over the last six years.
Adesina was also instrumental to the creation of the Africa Investment Forum, the continent’s premier investment marketplace.
The forum has so far attracted 110 billion dollars in investment interests in Africa since its inception in 2018.
In July, “Publish What you Fund”, a global campaign for aid and development transparency, ranked AfDB as one of the most transparent institutions in the world.
AfDB moved up from fourth place in 2020 for its sovereign operations.
Meanwhile, some of the dignitaries at the award were Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, Ministers of Information and Culture Lai Muhammed, and Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Tuesday offers automatic employment to two sons of late Sheikh Goni Aisami, an Islamic cleric murdered in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Aisami was allegedly shot dead by two soldiers on Friday in Jaji-Maji, Karasuwa Local Government Area of the state.
DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Spokesman of the Police Command in the state, said the soldiers, who attempted to steal the deceased’s car, were arrested and would be prosecuted.
Buni gave the offer in Damaturu when members of the deceased’s family visited him to express gratitude for his support to them.
He assured that thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the cleric would be conducted.
The governor pledged more support to the family which lost its bread winner.
On behalf of the family, Malam Ibrahim Aisami, expressed gratitude for the message of condolence and visitation by a high-powered government delegation to the family.
He said the employment would cushion the hardship the family may suffer, following the demise of the cleric.
