APC high cost of nomination forms’ll disenfranchise Nigerians- PDP, NNPP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the All Progressives Congress (APC) high cost for nomination and expression of interest forms for elective positions for 2023 has disenfranchised many Nigerians. The PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu stated this in a statement on Thursday in AbujaThe APC has pegged its nomination fees for president for N100 million, Governor for 50 million, Senate-N20 million, House of Representatives- N10 million, and State House of Assembly – two million naira.Ayu in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Simon Imobo-Tswam, said such price did not take into factor the economy situation and the suffering of Nigerians.Ayu added that the price did not also reflect APC’s preaching for “Equal Opportunity”.“This has disenfranchised thousands of Nigeria youths, and dashed the hopes of millions of Nigerian youths, who applauded signing of the Not Too Young To Run Bill into law in 2018.“It is most insensitive, and mind-boggling. In fact, all those buying the N100m and N50m nomination forms should be investigated for suspected fraud.“We, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are different. We are a mass movement for the Nigerian people. This is why our nomination fees are soft and democratic,” Ayu said.Similarly, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Agbo Major, has described the APC nomination forms fees for 2023 general elections as outrageous.Major said that the fees were unfair, unjust, despicable and insensitive to the plights of NigeriansHe said selling forms to the highest bidder, would encourage godfatherism.“It will shut out patriotic and resourceful aspirants particularly women, youth and those with disability to continue its infamous recycling of retired and tired party stalwarts with no agenda for a better Nigeria. He also called on anti-graft agencies of the country to thoroughly investigate the source of income of any person who purchases the party nomination form.“ This is the only way the nation’s electoral process will be sanitised of money politics that has imposed clueless leaders on the populace.“The consequence is the lingering political upheavals, insecurity, economic depression, moral decadence, religious disharmony and ethnic division across the country.”Agbo called on Nigerians to rally support for NNPP in the 2023 general elections.(NAN)Source Credit: NAN

Group advocates active youth participation in 2023 elections

A political support group, the Peoples Democratic Party New Generation, has advised the youth to be actively involved in the political process leading to 2023 general elections.

Its Director-General, Mr Audu Mahmood, while addressing news conference on Wednesday in Abuja, advised youth not to sit on the fence, merely agitating and allowed older generation take all the slots, but to take their rightful place in deciding the future of the country.

“We are calling the young people (men and women of energy) of our great party and by extension Nigerians, to join the political process and let’s occupy our political parties to deliver the change we seek.

“We can no longer sit on the fence by merely agitating on the social media, while we allow the older generation take all slots.

“We need to take our rightful seat at the table where the issues of our future is being discussed and negotiated. It is not enough to rant, get involved in the process!” Mahmood said.

He said that the group decided to hold the press conference having reviewed the level of insecurity, unemployment, dwindling economic activities, injustice and other challenges in the country.

Mahmood said that the ugly situation Nigeria found itself could have been averted if the leaders managed the situation well.

He said that Nigeria, which is the Africa’s most populous nation and one said to have the largest economy on the continent was now struggling to survive.

He decried that the insecurity challenge had not only affected the citizens, also the economic and social activities in almost all sections of the country had also been affected.

“Few weeks ago, we reached the crescendo of it all – when bandits attacked and bombed an Abuja-Kaduna train; just a few days after Kaduna Airport was attacked by bandits.

“As I speak, there are scores, kidnapped and still missing. We sympathize with families who lost their loved ones while we pray for the departed to rest peacefully with their creator.”

Mahmood who said that the group sought to protect the nation and her children, said that if the youth did not act decisively, the demands of the moment would find them wanting and history would issue a terrible verdict against them.

“We need to recreate hope, we need to make Nigeria safe and united – these are the burdens on the next government to be formed by the PDP.

“As a youth group of the Peoples Democratic Party – PDP New Generation; we appreciate the NWC led by Sen. Iyorchia Ayu for his efforts in fostering unity amongst party members which will ultimately put the party back to its winning ways.”

He asked all political appointees or elected officials, from National Executive Committee members down to the Governors, who has contributed to the problems of the country not to seek re-election.

“We seek to make Nigeria a land where no one will ever have fears in traveling by Road, Rail and Air – all at once because there is no government in place and terrorists are in charge.”

Recall me after one year if I don’t perform as president – Anyim

    / Angela Atabo

Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, a presidential hopeful on Wednesday in Abuja, urged Nigerians to remove him if after a year in office he does not perform.

Anyim, who intends to run on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform, said this while making a presentation to the party's National Labor Committee (NEC) after submitting her nomination form to run for the presidency.

According to him, his vision is to build a Nigeria that everyone is proud of, as he has the experience to make it a reality, having served as President of the Senate and Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“The only request I am putting on the table today is that if I am given the PDP ticket to fly this party's flag for the 2023 general election, I will come out ahead to win the election.

“I will return to government as president of Nigeria and if I lead this country for a year and you don't see the difference between light and dark, you can call me.

“From the vantage points I have held, I understand the challenges facing our nation today and I am clear on what the solutions might be.

“The purpose of being here today is to present to you my informed path to rebuild and refocus our country on the growth, peace and prosperity side.

“I will describe my understanding of the issues and my evidence-based path to solving them under three broad categorizations of political, economic, and social integration.”

Anyim said that politically, his administration would consider a consensus on Nigeria's structure, system of government and national ideals or aspirations.

This, he said, is because the absence of consensus in these areas explains the disunity and mutual suspicion that threatens the nation today.

He said that as part of our political consolidation process, a platform for broad consultations and frank dialogue will be provided on a new basis generally acceptable to Nigeria.

Anyim said machinery would be put in place to collect opinions and ensure buy-in from all components of the policy and build consensus on the structure of the federation.

He said it would also include an acceptable system of government and an agreed national baseline aspiration to which all would commit, as consensus building would be the hallmark of his administration.

Anyim said a visionary leadership style would be deployed to respond to the aspirations of the people, thus ensuring unity of purpose, inspired patriotism and commitment to building the Nigerian dream.

He said that industrialization would be encouraged to drastically reduce imports, improve local production and strengthen the naira among others.

Anyim promised to promote Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and review the Nigerian Industrial Revolution Plan (NIPR) to make it fit for purpose and ensure it aligns with our growth ambition.

He added that talent and innovations would be the flagship of the knowledge-based component of the economic agenda to unleash the creativity of the young population.

Anyim said Nigeria's mode and factors of production will be repositioned through science and technology to fit the fourth industrial revolution in all sectors.

He said that currently, the nation was under security and separatist challenges, but his government would develop national integration policies that reflected the federal character.

The candidate said he would promote the equality of all citizens before the law and protect the independence of the judiciary, adding that strong institutions would be built to promote and protect the sanctity of life.

He said that women, youth and diaspora Nigerians will be properly integrated into national development.

According to him, discrimination based on ethnicity and religion will be eliminated and citizens will play an active role in formulating policies while upholding the rule of law.

Anyim said that he would comply with the party in zoning.

According to him, democracy is nourished by three certainties that are the certainty of tenure, the certainty of the structure and the certainty of the process.

“Any time any of these 'certainties' are no longer guaranteed, democracy will corrupt justice and enthrone inequity.

“Consequently, my call is that zoning, which is a fundamental tenet of our party, should not be scrapped.

“Democracy, being a system of rules and order, depends on strong institutions for its sustenance and success. When a system can no longer uphold its rules, it will enthrone the reign of power against the rule of law.

`My appeal is that the PDP should uphold Section 7(3)(c) of their constitution,' he said.

In her remarks, PDP National Chairperson Senator Iyorchia Ayu said that as of Wednesday afternoon, 17 applicants, of whom 16 were men and one woman, had obtained nomination and expression of interest forms from the PDP.

Ayu said this showed the strength and popularity of the PDP, as well as its acceptance among Nigerians ahead of the 2023 general election.

He assured all challengers that the NWC would be transparent and neutral as referee, adding that the decision of who would emerge as the flag bearer would be determined by the party.

Ayu urged all the hopefuls to work together so that the PDP emerges victorious in 2023.

He expressed confidence in Ayim's ability to lead Nigeria, who has served as a civil servant, senator, senate president and then secretary to the Federation Government, adding that the party was lucky to have him.

Ms. Nkoli Mkparu, General Coordinator of the United for Better Nigeria Initiative (UBNI), said that the group, in collaboration with its partners, purchased the presidential form for Anyim because they believed in its ability to deliver.

“Anyim is the greatest gift that has been given to Nigeria, who is needed by Nigerians at this crucial time because Nigeria is a special country that requires someone with ability, consistency, stability, humility and the right temperament to run the nation. .

“Right now, the security aspect of Nigeria is very crucial, so we believe that someone like His Excellency will unify the country and provide jobs for the young people who are believed to be causing the problems due to unrest and unemployment.

“Your Excellency is very futuristic and has the wisdom to create new jobs for our young people so that we can come together and embrace our country. Nigeria can lead the world with someone like Your Excellency.”

2023: PDP on course, says Ayu

The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) says that it is on the right track with the schedule and guidelines for the 2023 General Elections as announced by the National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party's national chair, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, made this statement at the PDP National Caucus Meeting in Abuja on Monday night.

Ayu said that the National Labor Committee was working around the clock to ensure that the party complied with the schedule issued by the INEC.

“We are well on our way and this meeting is to look at our own schedule and guidelines.

“We are determined to strictly adhere to the guideline despite the limited time available. We will stick to this timeline.

“We are confident that we will win the majority of seats in the National Assembly and, more importantly, we will produce the next president.

“We urge Nigerians not to lose hope. We are coming and we will rebuild this country,” Ayu said.

The party's national chairman said that despite the challenges, the PDP had continued to make progress, including winning recent elections in the FCT area council elections and by-elections in Cross River, Ondo and Imo.

"We're making steady progress and I think eventually we'll pick up the slack everywhere," he said.

Ayu, who said serious issues would be discussed at the meeting, added that the PDP NWC was working with stakeholders to resolve any issues within the party.

“That also brings me to the crisis in other state chapters. We must hold congresses in state chapters that we did not have congresses before.

“Whatever problems may have stemmed from those congresses, we are addressing them and we hope we will solve everything, the party will be stronger than ever,” he said.

In his remarks, the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, said that the recent elections reflected the expected victory in 2023, and urged members of the national caucus to bury their differences.

“I call on all of us, as leaders and members of this great party, to bury our differences and work together in harmony.

"We must give the right signal to Nigerians that we are united and ready to rescue this country," Tambuwal said.

For his part, the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin, called on party leaders not to abandon former party members, while welcoming those who return after defect to other parties.

Jibrin described the meeting as critical to allowing the party to make important decisions.

Senate Minority Leader Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe said that the PDP Caucus in the National Assembly was doing everything in the interest of the country.

Abaribe said that even though the gender bills suffered some setbacks, PDP lawmakers want to make sure the NASS takes another look at them.

He urged party members to continue on their winning path.

PDP lied on leaving $550bn economy, says pro-Buhari group

The Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, did not leave behind a $550 billion economy when it lost power to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2015.

The Buhari Media Organisation, BMO, said in a statement signed by its chairman Niyi Akinsiju and secretary Cassidy Madueke that the party leaders' claim is at odds with facts on the ground.

“While we know that PDP elements are used to pulling numbers out of thin air, we did not expect them to fabricate figures on the state of the economy in May 2015 to mislead Nigerians.

“It all started in December last year when former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka dropped the manipulated figure on the PDP-era economy, before the elected governors on the party platform jumped on it.

“It is now surprising that PDP President Iyorchia Ayu, who presents himself as an academic, has also jumped on the bandwagon when he could have put his investigative skills to use.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Nigeria's GDP figure in 2015 was $486 billion, not the $550 billion that the opposition party is parading like a badge of honour.

“We dare say that virtually all the data the party presents is designed to mislead unsuspecting Nigerians,” the statement added.

BMO argued that, contrary to the rosy picture that PDP bosses had been painting, the economy was in decline at the time President Muhammadu Buhari took office.

“We want to put on record that no fewer than 27 states were struggling to pay staff salaries in 2014 and it wasn't until the APC-led administration came on board that states received bailouts to stay afloat.

“And just a year earlier, in 2013, Nigeria's poverty figure was 112 million out of a population of 165 million people, according to World Bank figures. Today, the Buhari administration has lifted millions of people out of poverty with the figure now standing at around 88 million.

“Yes, a large part of the country's debt was paid off by a PDP administration in 2006, but as of May 2015, Nigeria's public debt was $63 billion, even as the country earned $381.9 billion. only with crude oil sales between 2010 and May 2015. .

“Again we challenge the PDP leaders to show Nigerians how they spent what the country got as well as the funds in the Oil Excess Account because there is indeed little to no infrastructure to show in the boom era. of the oil".

BMO urged Nigerians to continue rejecting the former ruling party because, according to the pro-Buhari group, it has nothing to offer.

2023: 'Obasanjo's rejection of the PDP, a sign of imminent failure'

Osita Okechukwu, CEO of Voice of Nigeria, VON, described former President Olusegun Obasanjo's rejection of PDP proposals as a sign of another defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

Mr. Okechukwu wondered if PDP leaders have failed to understand that Nigerians are suspicious and no longer interested in reinforcing the PDP's money-sharing culture.

He said it smacks of the wrong political move for a party, whose membership card was publicly shredded to reapply for the support of the same statesman who rejected their association.

Okechukwu, a founding member of the APC, made the remarks when speaking to reporters in Abuja, saying Obasanjo's rejection of the PDP's request to rejoin the party is a sign of failure on the eve of the 2023 presidential election.

PDP bigwigs led by their national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, visited Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta Ogun, during which the former chairman commented, “I have been with the party since the beginning. Whatever I do in my own life, because I became president on the platform of the PDP, the PDP will continue to be part of the story of my life.

“But having said that, the day in my neighborhood I decided to tear up my PDP card was the day I stopped being a member of the PDP and that day I promised that I will never be a member of any political party again, but I will continue to be a statesman in Nigeria. , in West Africa, in Africa and, indeed, in the world.

“I feel my sympathy for our brother political party, the PDP, for this misfortune. Imagine the unusual electoral momentum the party would have generated had Chief Obasanjo agreed to their request.

“The reinstatement of the statesman could have raised the morale of the PPD bases. In short, rejection bodes ill, particularly on the eve of the crucial 2023 presidential election,” he said.

Asked for his opinion on the coup by PDP Chairman Mr. Ayu, who berated President Muhammadu Buhari and APC for being clueless and plunging Nigeria into eternal debt, Okechukwu joked: “I have great respect for His Excellency Iyorchia Ayu, an intellectual and experienced scholar. ; however, it is necessary to mention some of the huge and countless infrastructure deficits that the PDP bequeathed to the Buhari regime, forcing them to borrow for development:

“The Ibadan-Lagos standard gauge rail line and other rail lines abandoned by PDP, the less than transparent privatized energy sector, which has dangerously stifled economic development.

“Lagos-Ibadan, Lagos-Abeokuta, 2nd Niger Bridge, Kano-Maiduguri, Abuja-Makurdi, including 13,000 other federal highway networks across the country.

"Reequipment and modernization of the Armed Forces and other Security Organizations emasculated by the PDP." he said.

2023: Group uncovers Wike’s ‘evil plans’ against the North

A pro-northern youth political group, Northern Youth Network, has revealed that Governor Nyeson Wike's recent visits to People's Democratic Party governors across the country were aimed at picking a weak presidential candidate from the north that he can control.

Issuing a statement Wednesday in Kano, the group's coordinator, Abdulrahman Ahmed, stressed that Wike would not be allowed to impose a weak presidential candidate in the North in 2023.

He said: “We know that Governor Wike has never been a friend of the North and has never hidden his dislike for Northerners and everything related to the North.

“Therefore, he cannot pretend to have the interest of the Northerners now for his intention to impose a weak candidate from the North as the presidential candidate of the PPD.

“Over the years, we have seen Governor Wike denigrate the North and its heritage. Wike has always used degrading words to refer to Northerners. The North has been referred to in literature as illiterate and almajiris.

“The politicization of the legal dispute over the value added tax (VAT) by Governor Wike is a deliberate attempt to cripple the income base and the economy of the northern states.

“In recent times, Wike has championed divisive policies designed to create hatred against Northerners. Wike has said that the collection of VAT by the federal government is a deliberate way to change the South in favor of the North. "

The group added that Mr. Wike's stance as an advocate of good governance is hypocritical.

“He was a minister in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan at that time BokoHaram / ISWAP, assumed a dangerous dimension in the country, bombing churches and public places.

"The insurgency and the level of insecurity we face today is because the government that Wike served refused to treat him seriously, the group emphasized.

Abdulrahman therefore warned those running for the presidency in the north who think playing a secondary role to Wike will win the ballot to remember that the governor is a bad politician.

The group further recalled that in 2019 it supported Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, who sadly lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“If Governors Tambuwal or Bala Muhammed emerge as candidates, it is not Governor Wike who should tell the North. The North has everything it takes to get a candidate.

“He is trying to be smart. He wants to be vice president of whatever northern candidate he chooses and Ayim pius Ayim's chief of staff if power is shifted south.

“Wike was among the southern governors who held a meeting and issued a statement that power should be transferred to the southern part of the country. In another twist, Governor Wike, feeling that the PPD could elect a candidate from the north, has begun to move across the country in a desperate attempt to impose a candidate. "

The group insisted that Wike has expelled many people from the PDP as a result of his pushy, arrogant and domineering behavior.

“Recently, he fought and removed the PDP's national president, Prince Uche Secondus. At the reception of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the new president of the party in Benue state, it was cited that Wike warned him and threatened to work against him if he did not dance to his rhythm, ”the group alleged.

“We know that Wike's intention and his sudden love for the North is a ploy to deceive the region in its desperate attempt to impose on the PDP a presidential candidate that it can control.

"Now that his term is coming to an end, he is afraid of his political future, hence his desperation to impose a candidate that he can control in the party," the group added.

He concluded that the northern region has very experienced and successful veteran politicians and statesmen who understand the demand for leadership without the input of Governor Wike.

PGF boss floors Lai Mohammed for defending bandits terrorising North-west

A leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the CEO of the Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, Salihu Moh-Lukman, condemned the recent comment by Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, defending the bandits terrorizing the North . -Where is.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the minister allegedly declared that "the bandits operating in the northwest are not terrorists".

But the boss of PGF, in a statement Monday in Abuja, called the minister's statement illogical.

Moh-Likman noted that Mr. Mohammed should have been guided by the recent explanation by Defense Minister Bashir Magashi that the process to declare the bandits terrorists is not yet complete.

“To a large extent, this explains the illogical and defensive approach of some senior federal government officials in trying to argue that the bandits operating in the Northwest are not terrorists.

"With good coordination in the communication of government initiatives, the explanation of the Minister of Defense, Major General (retired) Bashir Magashi, that the procedure to declare the bandits as terrorists has not yet been completed would have guided all official communications on the matter.

“As APC prepares for its national convention, issues of national unity and responses to national security challenges should be top priorities.

“Much like the election of leaders, how APC wishes to continue responding to the challenges of insecurity should be on the agenda of the APC National Convention on the basis of which a decision is made when of the Convention by adopting an amendment to the Convention. party manifesto by majority vote of the delegates.

“Once that is done, he will help the APC, its leaders and especially the candidates for the 2023 elections to mobilize Nigerians to vote for the party.

"At the same time, this will potentially prepare the party to be able to neutralize the PDP's toxic policy of promoting hatred with the high probability that it can produce far-right candidates for the 2023 election."

While commending the opposition People's Democratic Party, PDP, for staging a successful national convention, the CPA leader also challenged the new leadership to investigate the mismanagement of around N30 billion raised for the construction of its national secretariat in Abuja.

"It may be necessary to also ask the newly elected PDP leadership under Dr Iyorchia Ayu to possibly investigate the management of funds raised for the construction of the 12 story PDP National Secretariat located on Muhammadu Buhari Way, Central Business District, Abuja, which is now abandoned as a demonstration of the commitment to save Nigeria.

“Having raised nearly 30 billion naira and spent over 16 billion naira, a born again PDP leadership committed to saving Nigeria should be able to resolve its internal problems first. As it is often said, charity begins at home. A party that is committed to saving Nigeria must first and foremost save itself from its internal adversaries. "

“As much we must recognize that the PDP was able to open up to negotiations leading to the emergence of a new leadership, insofar as it did not take advantage of the National Convention to simulate an internal negotiation within the party. on how the challenges facing the country should receive a response from a PDP government suggesting the absence of any commitment to work for a new Nigeria. Perhaps as part of the efforts of the new PDP leadership to start a fresh start, they will initiate new processes of negotiating these issues.

“If this is to be the case, it will be necessary for the new leaders of the PDP to take their stand by taking the responsibility to honestly accept their mistakes when they had the opportunity to rule Nigeria between 1999 and 2015. the PDP and its leaders as dishonest.

“APC must therefore use its national convention to demonstrate its commitment to change Nigeria. In addition to the election of the leaders, the party manifesto should be the subject of an amendment debate.

“As part of its commitment to change Nigerian politics, APC must make an unambiguous commitment to the unity of Nigeria on the basis of governance initiatives grounded in the principles of equity and equitable access to resources. and opportunities by all Nigerians from all parts of the country.

“In addition, APC must be committed to developing the productive potential of every Nigerian and every part of the country. The issue of national development must be oriented on the basis of clear strategies to develop the economy of each part of the country.

“The issues of industrialization, development of human capital through equally aggressive public and private investments in the education and health sectors of the country must be given priority.

“This should mean that the commitment of political leaders to development planning issues needs to be strengthened and that the Nigerian civil service needs to be reformed and rebuilt appropriately to manage national development initiatives. "
