Osinbajo hails new `Mutawalli’ of Ilorin

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday in Ilorin, Kwara, congratulated Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq, a renowned lawyer and businessman on his installation as the new Matawali of Ilorin.

The royal turban of the new Mutawali, who is the older brother of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, was made by Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, at his palace.

“It gives me great joy to join all of you in celebrating my dear brother and friend as he receives the title of Mutawali of Ilorin, in this special turbaning ceremony.

“Perhaps one of the great tragedies of history and time is the inability of people who have, on occasion, been elected to great office to rise to the stature of office.

“The repercussions are often sharp and long-lasting, reducing the man and the office along with him.

“But there are momentous occasions when hope and history rhyme and a man is chosen who gracefully rises to the height of the responsibility entrusted to him.

“Today and now, we are in one of those moments as clearly evidenced by AbdulRazaq, whom I have had the privilege of knowing closely: we were classmates in law school and have been friends for more than 40 years.

“His track record of excellence and service in the legal, business and public spheres are widely known. Bridge House College, FMB Holdings, his law firm, House of Laws.

"The apple does not fall far from the tree as they say."

According to the Vice President, everyone attests that Ilorin's new Mutawali brings many qualities to the title.

He said that AbdulRazaq was a world-class mind who has navigated the legal profession and the complex worlds of business and politics at the highest possible levels, strictly on the merit of his own ability and the weight of his contributions.

“But what makes him indispensible, particularly for this role, is his compassion, his strong belief in upholding human dignity at every level.

“His Ph.D. The thesis on the protection of human rights in Africa set the framework for the establishment of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, which was later commissioned by the African Unity (OAU), which is now the African Union (AU). . Years later, in the same spirit, he founded the Nigerian Council for Human Rights, of which he was Executive Secretary for ten years.

“The extent of AbdulRazaq's philanthropy is a matter of public record.

“His investments in education, and in ensuring that as many people as possible, within his sphere of influence, get a quality education and a good chance at a better life, have earned him well-deserved laurels and awards, at home and abroad. Foreign.

"The title of Mutawali of Ilorin undoubtedly finds a natural home in this great believer in humanity and supporter of many."

The Vice President praised the Emir of Ilorin for his enviable achievements as a lawyer.

He said that Sulu-Gambari was a man of reputation who had made immense contributions to the growth of his kingdom, state and Nigeria in general.

“Those of us who are not from Ilorin here feel part of Ilorin because of my dear father, the Emir of Ilorin, whose competence and achievements as a lawyer and a judge of the Court of Appeals are not just any kind of achievement.
