    Haliru Jika is NNPP’s new gubernatorial candidate in Bauchi State

    Sen. Haliru Jika emerged the Bauchi State gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Thursday through a voice vote.

    Jika emerged unopposed following the voluntary withdrawal of Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim, who was initially elected as the candidate of the party at its primary election.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 630 delegates unanimously adopted Jika in the voice vote.

    Chairman of the election committee, Malam Yusuf Kofar-Mata, said it was sent by the party’s national headquarters to conduct the election following the receipt of the letter of withdrawal by Ibrahim.

    “Since Sen. Jika is now the only aspirant in the race, I hereby, affirm him as the gubernatorial candidate of the NNPP in Bauchi State.

    “We have 630 delegates here with us who have also affirmed and adopted Jika as gubernatorial candidate.

    “I want to appreciate INEC officials for their presence to observe all that we have done here today,’’ he said.

    Speaking after his affirmation, Jika, a former Member of the House of Representatives and former Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude to the delegates.

    He also appreciated the NNPP for the honour done to him by giving him the opportunity to fly the party’s flag at the 2023 governorship election.

    He expressed appreciation to the INEC officials for witnessing the process.

    Emir of Biu has endorsed my re-election bid – Lawmaker says

    Rep. Aliyu Betara (APC- , says the Emir of Biu in Borno, Alhaji Mustapha Biu, has endorsed his bid for re-election.

    The lawmaker, also Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, stated this on Sunday after presenting his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to the emir in his palace.

    He quoted the emir as saying that he had positively transformed the lives of his constituents, and described the support he was getting from them as unprecedented.

    The emir noted that it was the first time constituents of contributed money to buy nomination form for a politician in appreciation of the positive impact made on their lives.

    The traditional ruler said Betara had done a lot for the constituency and that in just one year Biu, Kwaya Kusar, Bayo and Shani witnessed massive positive transformation due to the lawmaker’s interventions.

    Betara stated that the emir said he was hopeful that he would emerge as the Speaker of the House of Representatives if re-elected so as to attract more benefits to the constituents.

    Betara’s colleagues who accompanied him to the palace were Sen. Haliru Jika, Rep. Umar Bago, Rep. Ahmed Jaha, and Rep. Kabir Tukura.

    Expressing appreciation of the support from his constituents, Betara said: “I feel happy to come to my constituency. Every time they elect me, I have things I do for my people.

    Betara was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2007.

    He served as Chairman, Committee on Army in the 7th Assembly; Chairman, Committee on Defence in the 8th Assembly, and currently Chairman, Committee on Appropriations.
