Others are Paul Bassey (Akwa United FC); Adamu Mohammed (Niger Tornadoes FC); Coach “Amehi Dickson (Dakkada FC); Promise Nwachukwu (Heartland FC) and Ferdinand Emeka (Rangers Int’l FC).

Others are Tunde Ogunja (Sunshine Stars); Tunde Olaniyan (Shooting Stars FC); Abubakar Abubakar (Gombe United FC); Dominic Iorfa (Lobi Stars FC); Jude Anyadufu (Enyimba FC) and Abdulsamad Badama (Katsina United FC).

At the end of the meeting, club owners unanimously pledged total support to the board on any steps it will take to ensure that the NPFL lives up to the name of a professional league in every sense of the word.

Other areas they said include; matches won on the basis of Highest Bidder, Poor Infrastructure, Incompetent Administrators, No prize money for winners failure to honour same.

They urged the NFF president and his board to critically look into the aforementioned areas of concern and restructure the NPFL in line with international best practices.

They also called on the NFF president to set up a committee of football experts to look into the former League Management Committee (LMC) and the current Interim Management Committee (IMC).

Participants at the meeting agreed to come up with a functional governance structure to drive the NPFL for the good and development of football in Nigeria and for the benefit of all major football stakeholders.

The club owners appealed to the NFF president to inaugurate the present IMC as appointed by the Federal Government through the Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare but with a short tenure,” Olajire said.

Zamfara govt. apologizes for shutting down NTA, Pride FM, others

Zamfara government has apologized for shutting down the NTA, FRCN’s Pride FM Gusau and three other private broadcast media organizations.

The other media organisations shutdown by the government included Gamji TV, Gamji FM and Al-umma TV which are privately operated.

The Government, a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, alleged that the affected media violated it’s  Executive Order No.10 and abused  journalism practice.

Dr Abdullahi Shinkafi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman, Zamfara State Committee on Prosecution of Banditry and Related Offences, however, handed an apology to the Media while addressing a press conference in Gusau on Monday.

Shinkafi said the government was angered by the alleged violation of the the Executive Order No.10, 2022, which came into effect on Oct. 13. The government, in the Order, banned all forms of political rallies and meetings in the state due to security concerns, suspended all political activities in the state and totally shut down Anka, Bukuyum and Gummi Local government areas’ roads and other affected towns and villages affected by order No 10, 2022 Part of the order reads: “In  the exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 5(2), 176(2) and 315 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended) and all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I honorable Dr Bello Muhammad (Matawallen Maradun) MON, Executive Governor, Zamfara State, following the recent spate of attacks and killing of some innocent souls in some communities across some local government areas of the state, particularly Gusau, Tsafe, Gummi, Bukuyum, Anka Bungudu, Maru, Maradun and Laura Namoda, resurgence of some activities of banditry, recent cases of kidnapping in their communities and some major federal high ways in the state.

“And in an effort to curtail the menace of Armed banditry and other related crimes in the state as well as the need to widen the scope of measures taken by the Government so as to strengthen the fight against banditry and other forms of social vices in the state, do hereby issue the following Restrictions Orders; “The Order may be cited as Restriction of movement and banning of all political activities Order No. 10, 2022 and shall come into operation on the 13th Day of Oct. 2022; “From the commencement of this Order: “All political activities in the state has been suspended until when the security of the state improves.

; “Political meetings and gathering at individuals’ residents are also banned with immediate effect; “Total shut down of Anka, Bukuyum and Gummi Local government areas, roads as well as Yarkufoji Birnin Tudu, Rini, Goran Namaye, Janbako, Faru, Kaya, Boko Road, Bakura to Lambar Damri Road, Mayanchi Daki Takwas to Gummi road Daki Takwas to Zuru road Kucheri, Bawa Ganga, Wanke road, Magami to Dangulbi road and Gusau to Magami road until when the security improves in the areas.

“All movements are henceforth restricted in the mentioned local government areas and towns; “Danjibga, Kunchin Kalgo and Bagega Markets are hereby closed until when security of the affected areas is restored; “All security agencies are hereby directed to arrest anybody found violating the restriction order.

“Mobile courts are hereby established to deal with violators of this Order.

” Shinkafi said that the affected media organizations violated the Order by covering an alleged “illegal political activity” of the Governorship candidate of the  People’s Democratic party (PDP), Dr Dauda Lawal-Dare, in Gusau on Saturday.

He said the “illegal political gathering” led to a security breach by some youths of the two political parties, saying “The police had confirmed that one man was shot dead and 18 others injured during the event.

” Shinkafi said that the government action of shutting down the media houses attracted unprecedented reactions and criticisms from various organizations and agencies.

The broadcast media regulators, Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the International Press Institute (IPI), among others, condemned the government for its action and called for immediate reversal.

The APC chieftain, however, insisted that Gov. Matawalle’s action was guided by the powers vested on him as enshrined in relevant sections of the Constitution of the Federal Republic.

According to him, the government has since withdrawn the order given to the Commissioner of Police to arrest and prosecute personnel seen around the affected media organizations.

Shinkafi said the government has also withdrawn the security forces deployed to the Media houses to allow the personnel resume their work.

He urged the Media organizations and all Journalists to respect the state laws and support the government in its effort to tackle banditry and kidnapping in parts of the state.

Performance of football clubs in CAF competitions, reflection of league quality – Stakeholders

Some football stakeholders have expressed disappointment at the performance of Nigeria’s representatives in the 20222023 CAF Champions Cup competitions.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that no Nigerian club will feature in the money-spinning group stage of the CAF Champions League.

This was after defending champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco on Sunday hammered 10-man Rivers United 6-0 to progress to the CAF Champions League group stage with a 7-2 aggregate score.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Champions were the only Nigerian club left in the competition after Jos-based Plateau United also failed to progress.

Both clubs have now dropped into the CAF Confederation Cup competition following their elimination.

Also, Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin, Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup crashed out in the second preliminary round on away goal rule to holders RS Berkane of Morocco.

A cross section of football enthusiasts who spoke to NAN in separate interviews praised the team for giving their best, inspite of the challenges of competing against more quality teams from North Africa.

They however noted that the result recorded by the clubs was a direct manifestation of the quality of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Godwin Bamigboye, the Interim National Coordinator of the Association of Football Administrators in Nigeria (AFAN) said the teams are a product of a poorly managed league.

“Kudos to all the United(s) Teams.

I am talking about Kwara United FC, Plateau United FC and Rivers United FC.

“They did their best but they are products of a poorly managed League.

It is difficult to get a good result from a poor work,” he said.

He said the newly inaugurated Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board had alot to do to ensure that the Nigerian league regain its lost glory.

He stressed that all that was needed was for the NFF board led by Ibrahim Gusau to do the needful and the league would flourish.

“The NFF must ensure that the NPFL is re-organised and build up a good league management structure.

“Set up Technical Division for each league to be supervised by the Technical Department of NFF.

“Appoint coaches as Technical Assessors for each league match and not only Referees Assessor or Match Assessor.

“The Technical Assessor will do a SWOT Analysis on clubs, players and coaches with the purpose of helping them to improve to the universal standards.

“Technical Assessors will provide adequate data on Coaches and Players and this effort can create a pool of scouted players and coaches for national assignments at any given time,” he said.

The former Nigeria Football Coaches Association FCT Chairman also noted that some of the clubs were poorly managed.

He said the administrators of the clubs must improve in the management of their various clubs.

“Let the NPFL Club Owners Forum, headed by Isaac Danladi, develop their own blueprint that will make the NPFL the best League in Africa within a short time.

“Many things to be done, you may say.

    Action is required.

Congratulations to the United Nigerian Teams.

Come back home and do the needful,” he said.

Victor Baribote, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), said he could not fault the players as they put in their best, adding, however, that the negative result was expected.

“I am not surprised about the result because domestic football died in the last eight years.

“Those who were entrusted with the authority to run our football were all chasing their personal ambition with CAF and FIFA.

“They added no value to Nigeria Domestic Football.

You cannot reap where you sowed nothing.

“Even the  so-called new board that is a product of an ongoing litigation would be worst as it is another visionless board, same of same.

“You cannot give what you do not have and until the NFF statute is amended, our football will continue to be on the decline,” he said.

Patrick Ngwaogu, a former Sporting Director of Abia Warriors FC, said the situation with the league was a straight forward one, pointing out that the clubs in the country had no solid structure to be able to compete on the continent.

“The results we got on the continent is just a reflection of our league.

The unorganised league, with little or no structure.

“What will you say are the structures of the teams that represented us on the continent?

None. “Our league at the top is poorly structured,” he said.

He said that the NFF knew what to do in order to put the league in proper perspective, adding that until then, the league would continue to dance around in one place without making any meaningful progress.

“We have taken so many things for granted, and that’s why we are at this point.

“South Africa came down here to understudy us in the 1990s, today, they are up there, and we are below.

“The quality of our players is another thing.

Good players continue to run out of the country to play in obscure leagues.

“So, we are left with half-baked players, and the funds are not available to bring quality players,” he said.

Sola Afolayan, the President of Ekiti State All Stars Football Club, congratulated all the teams for giving their best and wished them a better outing in the future.

He blamed the dismal performance of the teams on poor league management and administration.

“The players and officials have tried their utmost best, which obviously has been submerged by the dysfunctional system of sports management we brandish in the country.

“I strongly hope that very soon the era of sport “damagement” shall be replaced by true management,” he said.

He pointed out that in those days preparing for any local match was like preparing for Christmas and wondered why the structure of legendary clubs of old like Rangers, Ranchers Bees, Bendel Uniited had suddenly been destroyed.

“The tsunami of bad administration, duplicitous refereeing and several other football boardroom shenanigans have percolated and destroyed football structures.

“Fans now have allegiance for the English Premier League and not the local league.

“Growing up as a secondary school boy, I never missed the program on television called “Match of the week” in which an explosive local league match would be shown to the populace as recorded.

“Reporters like Yinka Craig, Akiloye Oyebanji, Ernest Okonkwo (all of blessed memories), Emeka Odilo and a host of others hyped our local leagues then.

“Their reports always gave the fans something credible to expect in our stadia.

“Today, with the emergence of Multi Choice (DSTV and so on), going to any of our less comfortable stadia becomes the last resort,” he said.

He noted that viewing centres have come to replace the stadia, adding that Nigerian fans were now affiliated to clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea rather than local clubs like Eyimba, Kano Pillars, etc.

He stressed that the country’s football had been subjected to another round of colonialism, no thanks to the cabals of  bad administrators.

“These days, people with huge money prefer to go into politics where anything goes instead of investing such monies in youth and sports development.

“Sports indeed has been relegated to the subterranean as Nigeria is a country where the minister of sports had little or no pedigree in sport,” he said.

IPI Nigeria decries Zamfara Govt.’ shutdown of NTA, FRCN, others

The International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria has condemned the order by the Zamfara State government for the closure of some media organisations operating in the state.

Gov. Bello Matawalle, on Saturday ordered the immediate shutdown of some public and private media organisations, for allegedly allegedly violating government order and journalism practice.

The affected media houses included the federal government owned Radio Nigeria’s Pride FM in Gusau, and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Gusau.

Others are Gamji Television, Vision FM, and Al Umma Television.

A statement signed earlier by the state’s Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Dosara announced the shutdown.

Dosara said the government through the state security approved and ordered the closure of some media outlets in the state for allegedly violating government order and journalism practice.

IPI Nigeria, in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday kicked against the media shutdown.

In the statement signed by its President, Musikilu Mojeed, IPI said that the Zamfara State government does not have the power to shut down media houses.

It called on the Zamfara State Police Commissioner not to enforce the directive by the government.

The statement enumerates that the order by the state government clearly violates the 1999 Constitution as amended, and has no place in Nigeria .

“Shutting down media houses is a violation of the fundamental right to freedom of expression, which is guaranteed by the Constitution of Nigeria.

“If any media organisation has flouted any law, the only option opened to the Zamfara State government is to approach the court for redress.

“Resorting to self help as done by the Zamfara State government threatens the rule of law and could lead to anarchy,” the statement explained.

It asserted that by shutting down media houses, the Zamfara State government has taken the law into its own hands.

IPI Nigeria, therefore reiterates its demand for immediate withdrawal of all directives impeding freedom of expression in Zamfara State.

It also demands an apology from the state government for its act.

It calls on federal authorities to direct the Zamfara State governor to comply with the dictates of the rule of law.

The statement said this should be done by immediately withdrawing the order for the shutting down of the media organisations.

Police confirm, investgate shooting of one man dead, injuring of 18 others in APC, PDP youths clash

The Police Command in Gusau, Zamfara on Sunday confirmed the killing of one man and 18 others sustained injuries during a clash by members of two youth groups.

The Police said the groups were suspected to be members of  APC and PDP in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Muhammad Shehu, gave the confirmation in an SMS message to the News Agency of Nigeria in Gusau on Sunday.

Shehu, who confirmed that the command had received a report of the killing, said: “discreet investigation into the case has commenced aimed at ensuring that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.

” The PPRO, however, declined further comment on the incident.

The PPRO’s confirmation followed an allegation by the APC that thugs suspected to have been hired by the PDP attacked and killed one man and injured 18 others without reason.

The APC’s allegation is contained in a statement issued by Mr Yusuf Idris, Publicity Secretary in Gusau on Saturday.

Idris  said that: “It is highly disheartening and worrisome the attack with firearms perpetrated by PDP thugs.

“The thugs came as the PDP Zamfara Governorship candidate’s boys and shot at innocent youths who were carrying out their monthly sanitation work in GRA area of Gusau, the Zamfara state capital.

” He said that victims were attacked because they were APC supporters.

“We are calling for calm by the good citizens of the state who were angered by the thugs.

“We wish to call on both the state government and security agents to urgently fish out the culprits and bring them to book to prevent reprisals,” he added.

Idris urged security agencies to also uncover how and where the alleged attackers secured such dangerous firearms.

“A stitch in time, saves nine and a word is always enough for the wise,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state Deputy governor, Sen. Hassan Nasiha, had visited the victims of the attack at the Specialist Hospital, Gusau to ascertain their condition.

Nasiha told newsmen that 18 youths were shot during the attacks.

He confirmed that one live was lost while 18 others sustained various degrees of bullet wounds.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that three of the victims with serious injuries from gun shots were seen being attended to at the specialist hospital.

He said it was the fear of such breach of law and order that the Zamfara Government announced a halt on campaign activities and rallies by political parties in the state.

The deputy governor, however, said that the state government would investigate the matter and resolve on next line of action.

He assured of government’s resolve to punish whoever was found involved in the attack.

Nasiha consoled with the victims of the incident and promised that the government would not fold it’s arms and watch that happen again.

Meanwhile the PDP in its response, said that its governorship candidate, Dr Dauda Lawal-Dare, only had a small meeting to receive defectors from the 14 local government areas of the state.

The party’s Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Murkhtar Lugga, said shortly after the event, that the party received 50 defectors from each of the 14 local government areas.

On the issue of halting rallies as announced by the state government, Lugga said PDP’s activity was within the ambit of the law and in line with the Electoral Act 2022 as amended.

According to him, the party was guided by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s guidelines and time table for rallies and electioneering campaigns.

“We have applied for security and the Commissioner of Police and the Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps deployed their men that ensured successful activity of our great party,” he said.

Lugga expressed concern at the activities of some criminal elements who allegedly attacked some PDP youths during the event.

He claimed that two of its youths were also reportedly shot in front of the Campaign Office of Dr Dauda Lawal Dare in the state capital.

The PDP officials conducted newsmen round the emergency unit of the Specialist hospital where two victims with fractured legs and other  wounds  were also receiving medical attention.

Lugga, however, said  that the party would investigate the alleged killing of an APC youth and injuring of 18 others and take appropriate action.

The vice chairman  said the party was a law-abiding institution, assuring that their activity did not go against the INEC guidelines.

“There was no information from the INEC  halting political rallies or political events in Zamfara state,” Lugga said.
