    The Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, aware of its firm commitment to guarantee the health of the population, offers prevention, protection and care services, accessible to all, and wishes to continue fulfilling its obligation to inform everyone transparently. residents in the country, on the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) in Equatorial Guinea.In this sense, the Baney Laboratory in its daily work of examining the samples taken from different suspects, has reconfirmed one (1) new positive case. This time the positive sample is from a 63-year-old Cuban national who arrived in Malabo on board the Ceiba Intercontinental company flight on March 11, 2020, and moved the same day to Bata, joining the Crew of the ASEMAR Ship of the SANTY Commercial Company.The Coronavirus Technical Response Committee has taken all necessary measures to transfer this new case to the Bata case management and monitoring unit.     Global coronavirus cases exceeds 500,000 as SA tops chart in Africa

     With over 40 African countries currently battling with confirmed COVID-19 cases, South Africa tops the chart of the deadly virus within the continent as shown in data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

    Nigeria News Agency reports that the John Hopkins University tally indicates that South Africa holds the top spot in African countries with 927 cases, surpassing Egypt which previously had the highest number of cases.

    As at the time of filing this report on Friday,  Egypt has a total number of 495 in confirmed cases followed by 367 cases in Algeria.

    Also figures released by worldometers.infoon fatalities indicate that Algeria  currently has the highest number of deaths with 25 followed closely by Egypt with 24 deaths while South  Africa has recorded zero deaths.

    The worldometers.info tally shows that Egypt has the highest number of recovered cases with 102, with Algeria and South Africa recording 29 and 12 recovered cases respectively.

    Other countries with over 100 confirmed cases as indicated by John Hopkins University and worldometers.info include Morocco with 275 infected persons, Tunisia 197, Burkina Faso 152, Ghana 132 and Senegal recording 105 in infected persons.

    Country with least number of confirmed cases within the continent is Libya with only one infected person, while Somalia and Guinea Bissau have two recorded cases each.

    Other African countries with confirmed cases of the  novel conronavirus are Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Kenya, Rwanda, Togo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mali, Liberia, Congo and Central Africa Republic.

    NAN also reports that Nigeria has not remained unaffected by the raging pandemic with 65 confirmed cases including three recovered cases and one death.

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday evening reported additional 14 new cases.

    The NCDC on its official Twitter page, @NCDCgov, said that the confirmed cases were recorded in Lagos, Bauchi and the FCT.

    “Fourteen new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: 1 in FCT, 1 in Bauchi and 12 in Lagos.

    “Of the 14, 6 were detected on a vessel, 3 are returning travellers ans 2 are close contacts of confirmed cases,” the agency tweeted.

    The NCDC in its #TakeResponsibility campaign emphasised hand washing, self-isolation,  information sharing from official sources, avoiding large gatherings and social distancing to prevent and contain the virus.

    NAN also reports that a total of 532, 788 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded worldwide, with US overtaking China, the original epicentre of the pandemic.

    According to the John Hopkins University data, the death toll has hit 24,077 globally while the virus has spread to 176 countries.

    El Gobierno de la República de Guinea Ecuatorial está firmemente comprometido a garantizar la salud de la población, ofreciendo servicios de prevención, y atención accesibles a todos. En este sentido, una de sus obligaciones es informar con transparencia a dicha población sobre la evolución de la Pandemia del Coronavirus en Guinea Ecuatorial.

    El Laboratorio de Baney acaba de confirmar dos nuevos casos positivos. Se trata de una Ecuatoguineana de 89 años de edad y un varón de 25 años de edad, también de nacionalidad ecuatoguineano. Ambos viven en la ciudad de Bata y han tenido contacto con el primer positivo registrado en la región continental, estos dos, son los primeros casos de contagio local, ya que los 9 anteriores,  registrados hasta la fecha, son todos casos importados, cuyo contagio tuvo lugar fuera de nuestras fronteras.

    El Comité Técnico  ha tomado todas las medidas necesarias para el traslado de dos nuevos  casos a la unidad de manejo y seguimiento  de Bata. Por lo que, hasta la fecha, tenemos ya en el país un total de 11 casos positivos

    Y para terminar, expresamos cariño, solidaridad, esperanza y pronta recuperación a todos los afectados, al tiempo que pedimos a la población, guardar calma, serenidad y cumplir estrictamente las medidas de cuarentena y de prevención general impartidas por el Ministerio de Sanidad y Bienestar Social,  para vencer la pandemia del COVID 19 en Guinea Ecuatorial.
