    55-year-old man docked for allegedly stealing 1 cow

    A 55-year-old man, Sunday Oroke, was on Thursday docked in a Makurdi Upper Area Court for allegedly stealing a cow.

    The police charged Oroke, who lives in in Igumale town Ado Local Government Area of Benue with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

    The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Rachel Mchiave, told the court that the case was received through a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police Benue Command dated  June 23, and endorsed to the Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

    Mchiave said the petition was written by Miss Patience Obeta, who lives in  Makurdi on June 20.

    She alleged that the complainant sometime in February, gave the defendant a cow she bought for N250,000 from him to take care of.

    She told the court that the defendant was to  supposed to hand over the cow to the complainant in March.

    The  prosecutor said that the defendant sold the cow without the complainant’s consent and converted the money to his personal use

    Mchiave said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 101 and 324 of the Penal Cole Law of Benue 2004.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge .

    The Magistrate, Mrs Dooshima Ikpambese, granted the defendant bail in sum of N50, 000 with one surety in the like sum.

    She adjourned the case until July 21, for mention.( NAN)(

    Police dock man, 27 for alleged rape in Benue

    The Police Command in Benue on Tuesday arraigned one Ludix Udah, 27, before a Makurdi Upper Area Court for alleged rape of a 14-year old in Benue.Police Prosecutor Rachael Mchiave told the court that the case was received at Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi from ‘E’ Divisional Police Headquarters, via Ietter No. AR.3100.682 dated June 16.Mchiave said that one Angela Atu of opposite Old St. Joseph Catholic Church Akpehe Makurdi, reported at ‘E’ Division Police Station Makurdi on May 28.She said that sometimes in April, the informant came to take her daughter Rita Terhemba 14, to the village during holidays, after the daughter was dressed up, Ludix Udah of Logo I, Ayatse Street Makurdi stopped her from following her.She said that the accused asked Rita not to follow her mother to the village and it was during investigation that the said daughter revealed that, Ludix Udah, had been having intercourse with the minor in the absence of her mother.The victim also said that the accused had sex with her on four different occasions.She said that it was because of the accused intentions to continue with his illicit act that he didn’t want the minor to travel with the mother to the village.The prosecutor said that during police investigation the said Ludix Udah was arrested for committing the offence. She said that the accused contravened Section 284 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State 2004.She said that investigation into the case was still ongoing and requested for time to complete it. However, when the case came up for mention no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.The Magistrate, Mrs Dooshima Ikpambese, remanded the accused at the Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi and adjourned the case to July 27 for further mention.NewsSourceCredit: NAN

    Court remands prison official over alleged failure to pay judgment debt

    A Makurdi Upper Area Court, on Monday, remanded Mr Monday Tebu, a Deputy Comptroller, Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Benue Command, for over alleged failure to pay N410,000 judgment debt.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Dooshima Ikpambese, in her ruling, said that the explanation given by Tebu was not satisfactory and, therefore, ordered his remand.

    Ikpambese ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Correctional Centre in Makurdi until the judgment sum was completely paid.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Tebu was dragged before the court by one Mrs Ruth Adah for allegedly failing to honour the judgment of the Benue Rent Tribunal, delivered on March 26, 2021.

    Adah said that while the tribunal had ordered the defendant to pay her the sum of N440,000, he had only paid N30,000.

    When the case came up, Tebu insisted that he was not in contempt of the court.

    Tebu, however, admitted that since he was served with the court judgment, he had paid the sum of N30,000 to Adah, the judgment creditor.

    Police arraign housewife, lover over alleged adultery in Benue

    The Police Command in Benue, on Thursday, arraigned Terver Ukyagh, 35, and a housewife, Sewuese Peter, 35, before a Makurdi Upper Area Court over alleged criminal conspiracy, adultery and intimidation.

    The Prosecutor, Insp Veronica Shaagee, told the court that one Peter Ako, of behind Modern Market, Makurdi, reported the case at ‘D’ Division Police Station, Ankpa ward, Makurdi, on April 17.

    Shaagee said that the informant explained that on the same date, he discovered that Ukyagh, of same address, was having carnal knowledge of his wife, Sewuese.

    “On Apri 17, I discovered that Terver Ukyagh was having carnal knowledge of my wife, Sewuese Peter, and he gave her some substance to put in my food, with the intent to kill me,” she quoted the complainant as saying.

    The prosecutor said that the defendants were arrested during police investigation, with Sawuese confessing to the crime.

    According to her, the offences contravene Sections 97, 387, 389 of the Penal Code, Law of Benue State, 2004.

    She said that investigations into the case had been completed and requested for date for hearing.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that when the case came up for mention, Ukyagh denied all the allegations, while Sewuese pleaded guilty to the charges.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Dooshima Ikpambese, granted Ukyagh and Sewuese bail in the sum of N100,000 and N50,000 respectively, with one surety each in like sum.

    She said that the sureties must have fixed addresses within the jurisdiction of the court.

    Ikpambese, thereafter, adjourned the case till May 25, for hearing.
