    2 women arraigned for allegedly stealing goods worth N1.5m from supermarket

    Two women, on Thursday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing goods worth N1.5 million from a supermarket.

    The defendants: Janet Ene, 25, a sales woman, of 15, Oredapo St., Shasaha, and Ann Uloko, 25, a cashier, of 79, Adealu St., Agege, Lagos, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

    The Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on July 14, at Blenco Supermarket in Shasha area of Lagos.

    The prosecutor said that the two defendants, who are staffers of the supermarket, were caught through the closed circuit television (CCTV), where they were stealing some electronics and beverages, valued at N1.5 million.

    The offences, according to him, contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State, 2015. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

    Court remands 2 over theft of phones, other items worth N305,000

    He said that the defendants conspired within themselves to commit felony to wit: burglary and stealing.  

    The prosecutor further explained that the defendants burgled and entered into the house of one Ajibade Afeez, with intent to commit felony therein.  

    He said that the defendants stole one OPPO android phone, valued at N89,000; one Tecno Spark handset, worth N65,000 and one Tecno handset, worth N15,000.   Glory stated further that the defendants also carted away an Itel ear-pod, valued at N9,000, a cash sum of N120,000 and a rechargeable clipper, valued at N7,000, all totalling N305,000, property of the complainant.  

    The offences, according to him, contravene Sections 383, 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.   The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the defendants pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

    Oyawale ordered the remand of the defendants in a correctional centre, stating that the remand would serve as deterrent to others.

    Man, 20, docked for allegedly receiving stolen N6, 000 wire

    Police declare 2 wanted over alleged terrorism in Delta

    The police command in Delta has declared one Francis Odiakose and one Christopher Odiakose wanted for alleged terrorism, attempted murder and other crimes.

    The spokesman for the state command, DSP Bright Edafe, made the  disclosure in a statement on Thursday in Warri.

    Edafe said that a warrant of arrest had been issued against the suspects, by a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Asaba.

    He urged members of the public to arrest  and hand them over to the nearest police station, if seen.

    Edafe said that the suspects were declared wanted also for offences bordering on conspiracy and cultism.

    The other alleged offences are causing grievous harm and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace.

    “The Delta Police command has declared Francis Odiakose and Christopher Odiakose wanted  on C.

    R.O Form 5 issued by the state command.

    Court remands unemployed man for alleged armed robbery

    An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Thursday ordered that an unemployed man, Qudus Tijani be remanded in a correction centre for alleged armed robbery.

    The police charged Tijani, whose residential address was not provided, with conspiracy, armed robbery, house breaking and theft.

    She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), for legal advice.

    She adjourned the case until Oct. 10 for mention.

    Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Foluke Adedosu told the court that Tijani committed the offence on May 22, at about 1 a.

    She alleged that Tijani and others at large, while armed with guns, dangerous weapons, robbed Ademola Adedoyin of his phones worth N737, 500. Adedosu said the defendant also stole alcoholic drinks worth N157, 000 belonging to Morufu Adepoju.

    Adedosu alleged that Tijani on June 1, at Apete area, also unlawfully broke into the church auditorium of Pastor Kunle Oluwaseyi.

    She alleged that the defendant stole one generating set worth N140, 000, lamp holder, N10, 000 and other valuable items, belonging to Oluwaseyi.

    The prosecution said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 6(B), I (2) of the Robbery and Firearms laws, 2004 and 414, 416 and 390(9) of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.

    Man, 28, in court for allegedly being in possession of hard drugs

    A 28-year-old man, Ekene Ofodum, who was allegedly found in possession of 12 wraps of substance suspected to be hard drugs, was, on Wednesday, arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The defendant is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and dealing with hard substance.

    He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Prosecutor, ASP Rita Momah, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 12 at Iba, a Lagos suburb.

    Momah said that the defendant was found with 12 wraps of substance suspected to be hard drugs.

    The offences, she said, contravened Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Section 15(I) of the Miscellaneous Act, Vol. 8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

    The Chief Magistrate, Miss Adeola Olatunbosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties each in like sum.

    She, thereafter, adjourned the case till Aug. 31.

    An 18-year-old sales representative, Imeka Nkemefuna, on Wednesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing the sum of N984, 000 belonging to her employer.

    The defendant of no fixed address, was charged with stealing.

    She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant, committed the offence on July 21, at No. 16, Alhaji Ibrahim St., Pako bus stop, Ikotun, Lagos.

    Aigbokhan said the defendant stole the sum of N984,000 belonging to her employer, Mr Gbenga Dada. He alleged that the defendant did not remit the said money to the bank account of her boss, but instead, converted it to her own use.

    Aigbokhan said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 287 imposes a three year jail term on conviction for stealing.

    K. Dosunmu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Aliyu, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of malicious damage.  

    The Police Prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 2 at about 2:45 p.

    m. at Oke-Ureje area of Ado-Ekiti.  

    Adeniyi said that the defendant maliciously damaged an aluminum glass window, valued at N40,000 and an entrance door, valued at N40,000, all totalling N80,000, belonging to the complainant, Mrs Adebukola Oyekanmi, her landlady.  

    He said the defendant did the damage after a disagreement with a fellow tenant.  

    According to him, the offence contravenes Section 363 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.   The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.  

    Counsel to the defendant, Mr Olawumi Olowolafe, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that the defendant would not jump bail.  

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.  

    She, thereafter, adjourned the case till Sept. 29 for hearing.

    Security guard faces alleged N1.1m car parts’ theft

    A 32-year-old security guard, Amusu Kwami, who allegedly vandalised his employer’s car and stole some parts worth N1.1 million appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Wednesday.  

    Kwami, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police.  

    The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, informed the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on July 26, at 7.00 a.

    m. at No. 23, Canoe St., Ejigbo in Lagos State.  

    He said that the defendant stole an unregistered Lexus 350RX 2013 model parts valued  N1.1 million, belonging to one Mrs Candid Jibie.  

    According to the prosecutor, the car was vandalised and the following parts stolen from it – car radio, headlamp, navigator system screen, body chrome, engine carrier and engine cover.  

    Aigbokhan said that the car was kept in the care of the defendant but he could not secure it.  

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.   The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Businessman demands N250,000 from ex-wife in exchange for divorce

    A businessman, Isma’il Alfa, on Wednesday demanded N250,000 from his estranged wife Maryam Adamu, who filed a suit seeking for divorce in a Shari’a Court in  Magajin Gari, Kaduna.

    Alfa, who was represented by his counsel A.

    A. Liman said he paid N50,000 as dowry to marry Adamu in 2014 and that he also sponsored her education.

    “Since, she is the one seeking for divorce and she fears disobeying God, I won’t stop her but she has to pay me N250,000 instead of the N50,000 dowry.

    “I married her when she was a secondary leaver and I spent not less than N500,000 for her to run a diploma programme,’ he said.

    Earlier, Adamu prayed the court to dissolve her marriage on grounds of Khul’i (redemption) saying she was ready to return the dowry to the defendant.

    The complainant who spoke through her lawyer, Salisu Jundullahi, said she bore a son for the defendant.

    ‘The money he claimed he spent on my education can’t be quantified to child I have for him,” she said.

    The judge Malam Rilwanu Kyaudai adjourned the matter until Aug. 18 for ruling.
