I will secure Nigeria economy to tackle insecurity – Hayatu-Deen

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, says he will grow the economy to address security challenges in the country if he is elected president.

Hayatu-Deen stated this on Friday in Jos while adressing Plateau delegates ahead of the party primaries slated to hold later this month.

The governorship aspirant said  that there were monumental issues facing this country but they would be tackled by first fixing the nation’s economy.

“We have a big  economy security problem, unless we can secure this economy and make it function at its peak, then our lives do not make much meaning.

“It is very important to actually rebuild this economy from ground zero,  reorganise it and address certain critical issues that are important to every Nigerian”, he said.

He said that unless Nigerians have access to basic needs of life, the other insecurity and challenges would continue to fester.

Hayatu-Deen said that energy security “is another very important security challenge that needs urgent attention”.

The aspirant noted that part of that area of security had to do with availability of power.

“This country is a very large gas zone. People are not just relying on hydroelectric power or other kinds of power but to rely on a vast reservoir of gas for power.

‘We have abundant sunshine, especially in this part of the country: and we should be in a position to be able to use the solar energy.

“So energy security is critical and we will pay a lot of attention to,” he stated.

Speaking further, Hayatu-Deen said that he would ensure  political security to have a fairly stable political system that would guarantee Nigerians’ ability to exercise their freedom to elect whom they want into office.

According to him, Nigerians will do that without having to put anyone under any undue influence.

“Political security means that we’re able to organise our elections efficiently and effectively to guarantee that you’re going to participate and choose long of your choice,” he said.

He emphasised environmental protection as another important area where Nigeria farmers would be protected from the hazards of flooding and other challenges.

Mr Chris Hassan, the Plateau PDP Chairman in his remarks, said that Plateau delegates would assess the aspirants and settle for the best for the good of Nigeria.

Hassan said that he would identify with the aspirant that would unite the nation.

Plateau too rich to be poor – Governorship aspirant

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Plateau, Mr Caleb Mutfwang, has said that given the abundant resources the state is blessed with, it should not be among the poor states in the country.

Mutfwang stated this while presenting himself to State Executive Committee of the party on Wednesday in Jos.

Presidency: Saraki says it is turn of North-Central

As politicians jostle for the nation’s presidency in 2023, former Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that it was the turn of the North-Central geo-political zone to lead the country.

Saraki spoke on Tuesday in Jos when he addressed delegates from Plateau ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary elections slated to hold in May.

The former Kwara governor, who is among the many aspirants in the race for the PDP ticket, pointed out that the North-Central had consistently supported other regions to lead the country and deserved similar support from other zones, this time.

“You remember that before the national convention of our party, we held a meeting in Abuja with delegates of North-Central extraction.

“We said to ourselves that for many times and many years, we, in the North Central, have worked hard, we struggled, used our efforts, used our money, used our energies to support other people to lead.

“Everybody, who had become President under this great party, got the seat because of our massive sacrifices.

“We have now resolved that it is time for others to vote for us in 2023,” he said.

He stated that the North-Central had capable hands to address the myriads of problems bedeviling the country.

Saraki said that if given the opportunity, he would run an open government that would be transparent and fair to all Nigerians.

The presidential aspirant said that security and other challenges bedeviling Nigeria went out of hand because of lack accountability by the people that were responsible for tackling the issues.

“The problem of insecurity in Nigeria is because there has been no accountability.

“People have done things and nobody was held accountable for their failures.

“When I was Senate President, we sat down with security agencies and drew a roadmap on how to address the issue of insecurity, but the report was abandoned.

“If I am the President, I will hold people accountable and they will do what is right to end insecurity and there will be no injustice,” he said.

Saraki further stated that the country was so divided and needed someone that had capacity and a good grasp of the situation to restore its lost glory and unite the people.

Mr Chris Hassan, PDP Chairman in Plateau, told the delegates that Saraki stood with the state during its trying times.

Hassan said that Saraki was a stabilising factor that had traversed the length and breadth of the  country to reconcile members of the PDP.

The chairman said that delegates would assess all aspirants and make an informed decision based on their antecedents.

Rep Beni Lar, daughter of Chief Solomon Lar, first PDP chairman, in her remarks, said that Nigerians were tired of bloodshed and that Saraki had the capacity to end the killings.

Lar urged the presidential aspirant to ensure that women got their 35 per cent affirmation action  when elected President come in 2023.
