Group organises inter-faith special prayers for Tinubu

A political group, the ‘ROT Like Minds,’ organised special prayers on Sunday in Lagos for the success of the APC candidate, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the 2023 presidential election.

Coordinator of the group, Mr Jimmy Akinboro, chaired the joint Islam and Christian special prayers.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the group is made up of supporters of Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye (APC-Kosofe, Lagos Federal Constituency).

Akinboro said the group organised the prayers to seek spiritual intervention for Tinubu’s presidential ambition.

“The group believes that Tinubu’s presidential ambition will become a reality by seeking the blessings of God. “Tinubu is a trusted and tested leader who has touched lives and redefined leadership in and out of political positions,’’ he said.

Akinboro added that the prayer session was also to support Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State’s re-election bid.

“This is not the first time Hon. Agunsoye is organising this type of programme.

“We have embarked upon this prayer session in honour of our principal and our mentor.

“This is because he has unfolded his ambition to become the president of the country by the grace of God.   “We are his foot soldiers and we are his loyalists.

All of us have come under the banner of this group to organise this Christian and Muslim prayer session.

“We want to hand over all our affairs to God, so that He can guide us and grant our request.

“This is so that Tinubu can become president to continue to do what he knows how to do best, which is developing people and developing society,’’ Akinboro said.

In his remarks, Mr Adebajo Adetunji, an APC chieftain in Kosofe Local Government Area said the prayer session was to pray for more wisdom, knowledge and for Tinubu’s aspiration to come to reality.

Adetunji said the prayer was to hand over everything to God, the Creator.

“He precisely knows from the beginning to the end, so we are committing Tinubu’s ambition to God to see him through the 2023 election,’’ he said.

In another contribution, Mr Kayode Alegbe, a party leader in Ikosi Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), said “Asiwaju Tinubu has really performed well.

“If you look at his records when he was Lagos State governor, he created the 37 LCDAs. “These councils have created jobs for more people in the state.

“Tinubu groomed many leaders across the country and elevated so many politicians.

“That is why we are also supporting his ambition and also supporting Gov. Sanwo-Olu.’’

In her remarks, Rep. Zainab Gimba (APC- Kala-Balge), said the choice was a good one that would add value to the ticket.

Gimba commended Tinubu for choosing Shettima and urged the people of Borno who know Shettima better in terms of service delivery to work for the success of APC in Borno and in Nigeria.

On his part, Rep. Satomi Ahmad (APC-Jere), said that the choice of Sen. Shettima was very significant especially at a time Nigeria was faced with many challenges, particularly that of security.

Satomi noted the efforts of Shettima as Borno governor at the peak of Boko Haram insurgency and how he mobilised youths into the Civilian Joint Task Force to support the military in chasing out them out of Maiduguri.

“I send my congratulations to Sen. Kashim Shettima as he will be the first Kanuri man in the APC to attain this height.

“He is an Agricultural Economist, a banker and a lawyer with vast experience as former governor and a legislator.

“He is the first politician in the Northeast to lead the northern part of Nigeria to victory come 2023 as vice-president to Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu,’’ he said.

Alhaji Ciroma Usman, an APC chieftain in Borno said that the emergence of Shettima, even though it was much expected, was wise choice by Tinubu.

“I believe that Shettima will be the head of Nigeria’s economic team and am sure he will bring his long-time economic experience to revolutionise the sector.

“Shettima is humble and I believe he is a true unifier. He is a detribalised Nigerian who has virtually carried every Nigerian on board in his government when he was Borno governor.

“One of my colleagues, whom I have worked with as Shettima’s aide for six years is an Ijaw man from the South-South. This is a man that has both Igbo and Yoruba as his Advisers.

“He is also a man that believes in oneness of Nigeria. I could remember he once went against his kinsmen on the issue of exit of non-indigenes from the north,’’ Usman said.

Another respondent, Shehu Wajes, said the choice of Shettima as Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s running mate was a political perfection of the ruling party.

Wajes described Shettima as very intelligent and has the requisite communication skills to handle his assigned tasks as vice-president.

Usman Alkali, a legal luminary said the delay in announcing Shettima as running mate to Tinubu showed that the presidential candidate and the APC are calculative.

Chieftain urges APC to ensure genuine reconciliation for victory in Oyo State

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Mr Akeem Agbaje, said on Sunday in Abuja that the party needed to ensure reconciliation of aggrieved members.

Agbaje placed third at the Oyo governorship primary election contested by six aspirants in May. The election produced Sen. Teslim Folarin as the party’s standard bearer.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria that genuine reconciliation was expedient for the APC to emerge victorious at the 2023 general elections.

“A factionalised APC will find it difficult to win any of the elections in Oyo State in 2023. Fortunately we have time to heal wounds.

“The national headquarters and the leadership in the Southwest can step in, bring everybody together, unite everybody genuinely and the party will regain power.

“The candidates in Oyo State, the executive members that emerged at the primaries should be sincere in the reconciliation moves,’’ Agbaje, a lawyer said.

He hinged the need for reconciliation on sharp practices at the governorship primary election, which he said were not in tandem with the progressive ideology of the party.

“Primary elections are conducted by the national headquarters of the party; if it did not initiate a credible process, it could not get a credible result.

“It should have ensured that most popular party members emerged at primary elections.

“The fact that APC is in opposition in Oyo State suggests that the party should be more transparent in the conduct of its primary elections,’’ he stressed.

According to Agbaje, reconciliation is important, but can only be effective if done sincerely.

“I am fully supportive of reconciliation but not deceptive reconciliation. The party must carry everybody along,’’ he advised.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for displaying a high sense of commitment to victory at the 2023 presidential election by ensuring that the most credible and most popular candidate emerged at the election.

Agbaje described the process that produced Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as APC’s presidential flag bearer as worthy to be adopted by the party in all subsequent internal elections.
