    NIPSS seeks Reps support to amend Act

    The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) has sought the support of House of Representatives to amend the law  that established it.

    “I will be deceiving myself to say that all is well with NIPSS, though we are doing all our best to execute the mandate for which it was set up,’’ D-G said.

    He, however, said  in spite of the numerous contribution of the institute to the national development for decades NIPSS  could not retained best resource persons due to poor remuneration.

    “You need  to help us do more in term of what we get, the funding is too poor, we believe when we seek help, we will get it,’’ he said.

    Responding, Gbajabiamila, commended NIPSS for its long service to the nation saying that there was the need for amendment to NIPSS Act “Many of us will want to attend NIPSS because of what you have done and it is not an institution that anybody will want it to die, there is need for collaboration between NIPSS and NASS,’’ the Speaker said.

    According to him,  research is key to development in any sector,  therefore requested the institution to the draft amendment  for onward action.

    NIPSS seeks collaboration with NLTF on education, intellectual devt

    The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies ( NIPSS), Kuru,  Plateau, wants to partner with the National Lottery Trust Fund ( NLTF), to enhance national development.

    The NIPSS said it was seeking close working relationship with the NLTF in the areas of education and intellectual development.

    Director-General of the Institute, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, made this known when he led a delegation from the Institute on a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of NLTF, Dr Bello Maigari, in Abuja.

    “I am here today with my management team to strengthen and seek for strong partnership with the National lottery Trust Fund in areas of needs that will assist us to build a better society.

    “We find National Lottery Trust Fund an excellent organisation that we will partner with in areas of education and promoting national intellectuals, to move our dear country forward,” Omotayo said.

    According to him, Nigeria has a lot of smart and intellectual people who ”were currently idle.

    “Moving Nigeria to the greater heights is not a task for an individual, but it is a job that needs collective efforts and responsibilities.

    The Senate has received a formal request from President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm Professor Ayo C. Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.

    According to a statement by Ezrel Tabiowo, a spokesperson to the Senate President Ahmad Lawan, the request was contained in a letter read on Tuesday during plenary by Mr Lawan, moments after the chamber resumed plenary from its eighteen working days recess.

     The Senate had adjourned plenary on October 13, 2020, to enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to defend their respective budget estimates for the year 2022 before the relevant Committees of the National Assembly.

    Mr Buhari in the letter sought the confirmation of Professor Ayo Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in accordance with the Section 5(2) of the NIPSS Act 2004.

    The letter was titled: “Request for confirmation of appointment of Prof. Ayo C. Omotayo PhD as Director General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).”

    It reads: “In accordance with the provision of Section 5 subsection 2 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Act 2004, I write to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Prof. Ayo C. Omotayo as Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

    “The nominee’s CV is attached herewith.

     “It is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner.”
