Nwafor-led Imo APC begins fresh memberehip registration

Factional Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo, Mr Daniel Nwafor, has commenced fresh membership registration in the state.
Addressing members of his executive (EXCO) in Owerri on Thursday, he said that the National Working Committee of APC had recognized him as the authentic state chairman.
Nwafor, who pledged his loyalty to Gov. Hope Uzodimma, said that he was ready to work with him for the good of the party.
He said that his EXCO would critically look into the primary election conducted by Macdonald Ebere-led faction of the party.
According to him, a lot of calls, messages and questions are arising from my recognition, asking what next.
“What is next is that we will continue to function as the EXCO of tje party in the state.
“We do not have any business trying to be divisive.
“We are not in APC leadership to cause divide and rule or enmity with anybody.
“In politics, we must show tolerance and exceptional maturity to accommodate everyone that comes to us.
“We recognise the governor as the leader of the party in the state,” Nwafor said.
He urged those who did not register as members before December 2018, but willing to to do so, to feel free to come forward.
He urged members of the EXCO to show commitment in ensuring victory for all the party candidates in the 2023 general elections.
Reacting to the development, the state Publicity Secretary under the leadership of Macdonald Ebere, Mr Cajetan Duke, described Nwafor’s claim and moves as “dead on arrival”.
Duke described the claim as fake, arguing that it did not emanate from the national leadership of the party.

Am still in Governorship race, ADP candidate declares

Mrs Kemi Elebute-Halle, the Governorship Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), says she is still in the race for the Saturday election.

Elebute-Halle made the declaration to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.

The governorship candidate said that this was contrary to speculations in some media that she has defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

She said that the news of her defection to APC was “a cheap lies from the opposition parties, who were intimidated by her chances of winning the Saturday governorship election”.

Elebute-Halle said she has not collected a dime from any political party or individual, adding that no godfather was bankrolling her.

“I wish to state categorically that I have not defected to APC as some people have been spreading it on the social media.

“I have spent over  N4 billion to finance my governorship campaign; so, any person spreading rumours about me, Kemi Elebute-Halle, that I collected N500 million to defect to APC is a cheap lies.

“Let the person or persons even, the political party come out in public with evidence and as it stands “no retreat, no surrender,” she said.

The ADP governorship candidate, however, advised her followers to come out en masse and vote for her on Saturday.(NAN

Tinubu campaign group lauds peaceful conduct of APC presidential primary

The  Tinubu campaign group known as No Alternative To Tinubu 2023 (NATT 2023) has commended the peaceful conduct of the just concluded All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential primary.

National Co-ordinator of the group Mr Vincent Uba gave the commendation in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

The group also lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his display of wisdom, firmness and neutrality in the election.

NATT 2023, which transformed from No Alternative To Buhari-Osinbajo (NATBO 2019), is a campaign group currently working for the actualisation of Sen. Bola Tinubu’s ambition of becoming Nigeria’s president in 2023.

Uba said Buhari kept his cool throughout the period of the election in spite of intense pressure mounted on him earlier to influence the process by naming his preferred or anointed aspirant.

“Known to be a man of integrity with a track record of not meddling with any election in the country since he assumed office as the president, he showed the stuff he is made of and refused to bow to the pressure,” he said.

Uba also commended the president for allowing a level playing field for all the aspirants, unlike the previous leaders who would always impose their preferred candidates.

“We are happy with the president and proud of him to have exhibited this singular act of wisdom that gave rise to an APC flag bearer known to command a large national following and grassroots support.

“We congratulate the president, not only because APC had a successful, free and fair presidential primary election, but also because there is now relative peace, harmony and unity in the party.

“The president whose none interference in the primary election made APC to elect a man, who soon after he was declared winner of the exercise, showed magnanimity in victory by visiting his opponents in their respective .

“That is what can best be described as a display of maturity, humility and capacity to unite and lead. Who can beat that!

“We are grateful to Buhari to have considered the overall interest of the party and the nation at large and not impose any “anointed aspirant” on the delegates, even if it was the same Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” Uba said.

According to him, the presidential flag flagbearer has a track record of selecting round pegs for round holes over the years and will no doubt deploy same in choosing his team to govern the country from 2023, when elected.

Uba noted that the thriving economy and friendly environment of Lagos was a testimonial of the said track record of Tinubu’s performance while serving as governor.

He added: “Tinubu is a detribalised Nigerian, a lover of a united Nigeria, who as the governor of Lagos, selected his cabinet that cut across different ethnic and religious divide of the nation.”

Katsina June 13, 2023 A varsity teacher at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, (UMYU), Katsina, Dr Kabir Yandaki, on Monday charged the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Katsina State to address lingering crises between stakeholders and supporters.

He warned that if the crises were not addressed, the APC risked losing the 2023 governorship election in the state.

The lecturer called on Gov. Aminu Masari as leader of the party in the state to act urgently to avoid the collapse of the party.

“If the crises persist and APC Katsina chapter fails to carefully handle the problems, the party may lose the 2023 governorship election.

“What is expected is unity among members to face the bigger challenge ahead of them in 2023

“Opposition parties in the state have presented popular candidates for the 2023 election. They are carefully watching to benefit from the crisis in the state’s APC,’’ he said.

Yandaki said that it was unfortunate that some APC stakeholders in Katsina State were attacking the personalities of President Muhammadu Buhari and that of Gov. Masari

“The President, in view of his position and age, deserves to be respected by all party faithful and Nigerians at large,’’ he stressed.

Yandaki, Head of Department of Political Science, UMYU, urged APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Umar Radda, to extend his hand of love and fellowship to his opponents at the primary election and their supporters.

He observed that after the primary election, some party chieftains vowed not to work with Radda.

Police react as one is feared killed in Ekiti APC/SDP supporters’ clash

The Police Command in Ekiti say they are investigating a bloody clash between two rival political parties in a part of the State on Saturday.

Spokesman for the Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, made this known in Ado-Ekiti, while reacting to the clash, which ensued between supporters of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) at Itaji-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of the State.

Abutu said investigation to unravel what actually transpired, and the number of casualties, as well as the possible arrest of culprits had already commenced, while normalcy returned to the area.

“But on the killing of a person, we are yet to get that confirmation. As soon as that is done, I will update the press,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that one person was alleged to have died during the attack, with several others wounded, and now battling for life.

Local sources said the victim was among three persons, also allegedly shot at the scene, when the supporters of the SDP governorship candidate, Mr Segun Oni, and that of APC, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, allegedly engaged themselves in a gun duel.

Apart from the alleged casualty, the two persons who were shot during the violent act are said to be receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Ekiti University Teaching Hospital, (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti.

But speaking while confirming the encounter and killing, APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr Segun Dipe, and the Director, Media and Publicity, Biodun Oyebanji Campaign Organisation, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, said those affected were allegedly shot by SDP political thugs, who swooped on a faulty campaign vehicle, belonging to APC candidate in Itaji-Ekiti.

The duo claimed that the thugs, besides shooting the dead member in the chest, also allegedly rained bullets on a vehicle belonging to the Special Adviser on Road Infrastructures to the Governor, Mr Rufus Adunmo.

The APC spokesperson, Segun Dipe, particularly called on the police and other security agencies, to arrest the perpetrators for peace to reign in Ekiti before and during the poll.

“We were attacked, but we will not be daunted. We refused to be provoked. The hands of the law will catch up with whoever was the mastermind. We will not allow them to derail what is happening in Ekiti.

“The peace of Ekiti should not be tampered with. We now see the people opposed to peace in Ekiti, who have been creating mayhem in Ekiti.

“As I speak with you, we are at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital. The dead member had been deposited in the morgue, while the two injured are at the ICU section of the facility. This is not the kind of election our people deserve,” he said.

However countering the position of the ruling APC, the Director of Media and Publicity of Segun Oni Campaign Organisation, Mr Jackson Adebayo, said the APC should be held responsible for what happened.

“We were at the palace at Itaji-Ekiti where Segun Oni was meeting with the traditional rulers of Oye Local Government Area, while some people were outside the palace. Suddenly we saw about five buses fully loaded with political thugs associated with the APC.

“They started shooting sporadically. We initially thought they were shooting to scare us away, people were running helter skelter without knowing that they really were targeting our members to kill.

“They were also trying to force their way to where Segun Oni was may be in an attempt to assassinate him. That was when they were repelled by security agencies who came to the rescue.

“But unfortunately, one of the thugs missed his vehicle, because he fell down. We interrogated him and he said they were agents of APC. They left, we learnt one of them died later, but I would not know how,” Adebayo said.
