Experts call for vast agent banking, others to boost financial inclusion at grassroots

Some financial experts have called for the engagement of vast agent banking and e-currency to improve financial inclusion and the grassroot.

They made the call durinh a panel discussion at the year’s Digital Pay Expo on Thursday in Lagos.

The year’s theme is: “Decentralise finance Africa, beyond the hype, understanding use cases for the continent”.

They told the panel that decentralised finance system with less emphasis on consumers due diligence would strengthened financial inclusion.

Mr Abubakar Suleiman, Managing Sterling Bank Nigeria, said that economic inclusion of people at the grassroots would lead to rapid financial inclusion in Nigeria.

He said when people were empowered economically, they would be encouraged to save.

kalifat Araoye, Managing Director, Lotus Bank, said a simplified documentary procedure would encourage virtual and remote account opening without any additional documentation requirements.

The Managing Director, 9 Payment Service Bank(9PSB), Branka Mracajac, said that Nigeria had 65 per cent estimated informal sector size.

Mracajac said that Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) contributed majorly to job creation and economic development in Nigeria and Africa at large.

She said that improving financial ecosystem, digitalisation of financial services and good financial literacy among grassroots dwellers would bring rapid financial inclusion in Nigeria.

Mr Akinwale Goodluck, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, AfricaNenda, Kenya, said that interoperability among digital platforms remained backbone of digital financial services.

He explained that the interoperability allowed two or more financial platforms to interact seamlessly.

“It will enable the easy exchange of payment transactions between service providers and the users wherever the location either rural or urban area,”he said.

He urged the regulators to come up with operational model that would safely and reliably connect the stakeholders at reduced charges for the benefits of people at rural and remote areas.

Tinubu 2023: APC gives letter of recognition to NDA

    By Emmanuel Mogbede

The All Progressives Congress (APC) issued the Nigeria Diaspora for Aṣíwájú (NDA), a letter of recognition as one of the support groups within the party.

Mr. Omọ́gbọ́láhàn Babawale, Nigerian coordinator of the NDA, revealed this in a statement made available to the Nigerian news agency Monday in Abuja.

The NDA is a partisan group aiming to garner support from across Nigeria and the Diaspora for the actualization of Bola Tinubu's presidency in 2023.

The group has its offices in Lagos, Abuja and London with zonal support offices in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Babawale said the letter, dated October 18, 2021, and titled: “Letter of Recognition as a Support Group,” with reference number NDA / ONC / DG / OLAB / 10 / em02 and signed by the Director of APC's administration, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman, meant a lot to the NDA, as it would boost the morale of its members and inspire them to do more to induct a Tinubu presidency in 2023.

He added that the group's recognition further justifies its assurance that achieving a Tinubu presidency is possible in 2023.

Babawale said the letter of recognition could not have come at a better time than now that the Senate has passed the Election Law on the Electronic Transmission of Voting Results.

He expressed his gratitude to the President, CEO, Coordinators, Directors and members of the NDA for their tenacity, support and for staying focused on the goals of the group.

He said Tinubu's many supporters, spread across the country's six geopolitical zones, were eager to see him declare his intention for the 2023 presidential election.

"We are all on our tracks, preparing for the whistle," Babawale said, adding that NDA members were eager to get started.

He added that with the right visionary leadership, woven around the tripod of vision, passion and action, NDA is convinced that Tinubu is the best person to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Babawale said these are measurable in terms of deliverables during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State and his giant strides in the CPA.

He prayed that God would keep Tinubu healthy and give him the strength and wisdom he needed before the presidential elections in 2023.

According to Babawale, Tinubu stands out as one of the politicians with the best curriculum vitae to consolidate the next stages of the administration headed by President Buhari.

In the letter, a copy of which was made available to, the director of administration of the APC instructed the NDA to ensure that its activities comply with party guidelines.
