Odudigbo spoke to the Nigerian News Agency on Monday on the sidelines of the opening of the one-year commemoration of Liberia's bicentennial in Monrovia.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the event.
The ambassador said that Nigeria had long-standing cordial relations and cultural affinity with Liberia.
“Nigeria and Liberia have very calm and peaceful relations; it was most on display during the Liberian crisis because Nigeria spent a lot of resources to end the war here and after that, we have supported the Liberian government in every way possible to maintain the current diplomatic dispensation that they enjoy.
“We have a lot of Nigerian businessmen here; over 200,000 Nigerians living in Liberia are engaged in one field or another.
“We also have banks, GTB, UBA and Global Bank; there is also a savings and loan bank that was introduced last year; and an insurance company: Mutual Benefits Assurance is also here.”Nigerian Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia
According to him, the Nigerian community in Liberia is also very strong.
He said that there was a combined union of community and descent.
“The descendants are Liberians of Nigerian origin who settled here and are now Liberians.
`So, we combined them to form the Nigerian Community and the Descendants Union; they are very strong; the community is also doing well.
“As a mission, we are encouraging them to be very productive even in the community where they live and seen as agents of light and development, not as those who will cause crises.
“So to me, even as they are preparing for next year's elections, our government is behind as well; making sure things run smoothly here,'' he said.
