By Ijeoma Okigbo

Nigeria, once again , succumb to one of Africa’s top women’s cricket teams, Namibia, in the semi-finals of the Kwibuka T20 cricket tournament in Rwanda.

Nigeria lost by 91 points at the Gahanga International Stadium in Kigali on Friday after losing eight wickets to the same team on Monday.

The West African team put in an impressive performance Thursday against Botswana, winning by three wickets but could not maintain the same fighting spirit against the International Cricket Council (ICC) ranked 23rd team.

Namibia won the draw and chose to line up.

They scored 156 points for the two loss in 20 overs. Excellent performance from Yasmeen Khan of which 78 runs on 53 balls, including four limit strokes and two limit strokes.

Teammate Kayleen-Ann Green also recorded 29 points on 25 balls to help bring home more points for the Southern African team.

Meanwhile, Namibians Sylvia Shihepo and Victoria Hamunyela limited Nigeria’s chances of scoring points, as both contributed to the exit of four wickets, two each.

Their defensive ability showed no mercy as 41st-ranked Nigeria struggled to finish with 65 points for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

Namibia will wait for the winner of the second semi-final match between Kenya and Rwanda, to determine their opponent for Saturday’s finals. (NAA)
