Swift Collaborates with Ice Spice on New Version of “Karma”
Taylor Swift announced on Wednesday that rapper Ice Spice will feature on a new version of “Karma,” from her latest album “Midnights.” Despite fans criticising Swift for reportedly dating singer Matty Healy of the band The 1975, who had previously laughed along with racist jokes about Ice Spice, the rapper took to Twitter to call Swift “the sweetest person ever” following news of their collaboration.
The controversy began in January after Healy appeared on “The Adam Friedland Show” and joked about Ice Spice with Friedland and co-host Nick Mullen, referring to her as “Inuit Spice Girl” and “this chubby Chinese lady.” The podcast was removed from Spotify and Apple following public backlash.
Healy later apologised to Ice Spice during his concert in Auckland, where he said “It’s not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m a dick. I love you, Ice Spice. I’m so sorry.”
While Ice Spice never responded to Healy’s apology, Swift’s announcement of their collaboration suggests that she has moved on. The Sun previously reported in April that Swift and Healy were dating, and Healy had been spotted supporting Swift during several stops of her stadium tour.
Despite the negative attention brought by Healy, Swift remains positive and has recently told her audience during a concert in Massachusetts that she’s “never been this happy in my life, in all aspects of my life ever. And I just want to thank you for being a part of that”
It remains unclear when the new version of “Karma” featuring Ice Spice will be released.
