SWAN FCT secures 3-year partnership deal with Ratels FC

By Emmanuel Afonne

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), FCT section, has entered into a three-year partnership with Ratels Football Club and its president, Paul Edeh.

Ikenna Okonkwo, secretary of SWAN FCT, said in a statement that the deal was announced in Abuja on Thursday when the SWAN executive, headed by Ndubueze Chidoka, visited the football mogul in his office.

Edeh, who is also an Abuja-based lawyer, is the sole financier of two women’s clubs – Ratels FC and Honey Badgers.

He congratulated the association for organizing a successful election which ushered in a new leadership, and assured SWAN of its continued partnership.

He said: “Our partnership with SWAN FCT is due to the diligence and sincerity of its president, Ndubueze Chidoka.

“The documents I have show that the election that produced the new leadership is evident that the FCT sports editors are behind you.

“The congratulatory letter from the national body is another statement.”

He said: “My advice to all Nigerians and indeed sports writers is to always find the factors that unite us more than anything else; there must be a meeting place.

“My entry into sport is to seek a platform that will best unite us as a people. I created the Ratels Foundation for the Development of Sport in order to pursue this objective.

“I know that at this embryonic stage you will have a problem starting up trying to go around, looking for support so that you can achieve your goals.

“I will be looking forward to welcoming all SWAN members in the near future and will be dedicated to giving SWAN FCT a lifeline over the next three years in the form of a cash donation that begins this year.

“Expect the Ratels Sports Development foundation to be 500,000 naira each year, which is 1.5 million naira for three years,” Edeh said.

Earlier, SWAN FCT President Chidoka praised Edeh’s authenticity and commitment to enhancing human capital using his personal resources.

Chidoka assured that the welfare of SWAN members would be a top priority of his leadership and should strive to keep the association as one.

Vice President of SWAN FCT, Salifu Usman; Secretary Ikenna Okonkwo, Treasurer Ayodeji Makinde, Financial Secretary Muhyideen Jimoh and Social Affairs Officer Busayo Olowokere, including former SWAN FCT President Tony Ezimako, were part of the visit. (NAA)
