An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced a 55-year-old man, Abdulmeminu Salami, to six months imprisonment for failing to produce the defendant he stood surety for in court.

The Magistrate, Mr Olakulehin Oke, however, gave Salami an option of N50,000 fine.

The surety was arraigned on May 7 after he failed to produce the accused Muhammad Alli, who was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, malicious damage and causing breach of peace.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Olu-Balogun Lawrence, had told the court that Salami attempted to pervert, obstruct and defeat the course of justice by deliberately refusing to produce Alli.

Olu-Balogun said that Alli committed the offence on March 13, 2018, at about 6 p.m. at Agro Park, Ijale Farm, at Ilewo Orile in Abeokuta.

He said that Alli conspired with others and maliciously damaged Turmeric crops and other valuable crops worth N3.6 million with his cows at Agro Park Farm land.
