OSLO, Norway, October 25, 2021 / APO Group / –

Statement from Will Carter, Country Director of the Norwegian Refugee Council in Sudan:

Sudanese leaders must protect civilians and deliver on commitments to enable humanitarian assistance to reach millions of war-affected people

“Changes in Sudan’s political leadership should not alter laudable political commitments to protect civilians and ensure that humanitarian organizations can still help those made vulnerable by decades of conflict. The stakes are too high for the more than 13 million people in Sudan who need humanitarian assistance.

Sudanese leaders have a collective opportunity and responsibility to break with a difficult past and urgently remove all obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian assistance in a timely manner.

Sudanese leaders must protect civilians and deliver on commitments to enable humanitarian assistance to reach millions of war-affected people

“We call on the international community not to abandon the Sudanese people at this time of need. Almost a third of Sudanese people need humanitarian aid to survive. Yet the UN-led humanitarian response plan for 2021 is only quarter-funded. “
