A 25-year-old hotel steward, Olamide Omotayo, on Friday appeared in Magistrates’ Court in Tinubu, Lagos for allegedly stealing two banners worth N60,000.
The police charged Omotayo, who lives at 40, Abule-Egba Road, Lagos with theft.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution counsel, ASP Ben Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. at Eko Hotel and Suites, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Ekundayo said that the defendant who was a casual worker, a kitchen steward at the hotel, went to the main hall and allegedly stole two banners.
He alleged that Omotayo removed the two banners worth N60,000 designed for an event.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant was caught on CCTV footage, stealing the banners.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Nigeria News Agency reports that Section 287 (7) stipulates seven years imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer.
Magistrate A.M. Olumide-Fusika admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Olumide-Fusika adjourned the case untill Feb. 17, for mention.
