SEATTLE — Na wah, you go dey shocked as unako hear say Stefan Frei, di superstar goalkeeper of Seattle Sounders, don show up for training barely two days after dem carry am go hospital. Na real big surprise wey dem no expect but e show say him get mind like lion!
Di matter dey go like this: Less than 48 hours after di guy suffer serious injury wey make dem call ambulance for am, na im he decide say him wan go flex with di squad. Coach Brian Schmetzer dey vex say him follow text di guy just yesterday, tell am to chill for house and focus on recovery. But Frei no gree hear word!
“E want make we sabi say e dey okay,” Schmetzer yarn. “Na wetin make him special. E be leader wey dey shine light for di team.” Players dey jubilate as dem dey see am, especially Obed Vargas wey talk say, “Stef na di symbol of wetin we suppose be. E dey risk am body to make sure we dey alright.” (Make we no lie, sometimes ehn, na true padi wey dey carry di whole team for back.)
But abeg, make we no rush talk say dem go see Frei for pitch anytime soon. E still dey under concussion protocol. Di CT scan show say e no get extra wahala, but recovery from concussion dey differ from person to person. Sometimes na just one week, other times e fit take months. Di Sounders no wan play with safety for dis matter.
“Health na di most important,” Schmetzer talk again. “Any player fit dey form anyhow to come back, but we go make sure say dem dey safe.” (Kudos to di medical team wey handle di matter well, like dem be superhero!).
Meanwhile, Yeimar Gomez Andrade and Kim Kee-hee don train well, but di two of dem still no sure for di match on Saturday. Schmetzer hope dem go fit serve dem better when dem face di Colorado Rapids on July 16 and San Jose Earthquakes on July 19.
As di team dey ginger from Frei’s vibes, e be like say dem dey prepare for Throwback Week wey go sabi di days of Zubaz and Grunge. Dis one go sweet! Dem go unveil new kit wey dey remind people of di club first title for 1995, and we sure say dem go do some real pregame parry for di matches wey dey come.
The spirit of 1990s go dey flow as dem bring dis one back, making we all remember why we dey commit to di game wey dey bring joy and wahala at di same time. And lemme tell you, alumni from di 1995 squad go show face!
All in all, whether di Sounders dey dey celebrate or dey manage injuries, di heart of the game dey show say friendship and care pass all di trophies.
