Abuja, Nigeria – Omo, na serious matter wey just happen! Human rights activist and ex-presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, don finally regain him freedom after e spend four days for Kuje Prison. E announce im release for im verified X handle on Monday wey pass. E write, “HAPPENING NOW: Leaving Kuje Prison in Abuja after being detained there illegally for four days by @officialABAT illegal IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. #FreeNnamdiKanuNow.” (E be like say this guy no dey fear anybody!)
Sowore no dey alone for this waka; him and 12 other big names like Aloy Ejimakor, wey na special lawyer for Nnamdi Kanu, Kanu brother Emmanuel Kanu, and 11 other protesters, dem all arrest during #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration wey happen last week for Abuja. Dem carry dem go Magistrate Court for Kuje, where Magistrate Abubakar Sai’id give dem bail of ₦500,000 each. But e no come easy o! Dem still gree say make dem show verified National Identification Number, three years tax clearance certificate, and keep dem passport for house. After dem meet all these conditions, Sowore and dem other people waka come out from Kuje Prison on Monday.
This arrest no be small wahala, as e happen just after Sowore come out from Federal High Court where him go watch the trial of Nnamdi Kanu. Na the police, led by Ilyasu Barau, first carry him enter wahala. Dem come tell am say him dey under arrest and members of him legal team no gree believe wetin dem dey talk. Dem sabi say na the orders from FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, dem dey follow. E no easy to come outside court and hear ‘You are under arrest’ like say you don breach any contract!
This na part of the ongoing fight to free Nnamdi Kanu. The police claim say di protesters break dem own court order wey no allow gathering for sensitive areas like National Assembly and Presidential Villa, all in the name of security. But the protesters, including Sowore and others, no take am play as dem come dey demand accountability from the government. Dem wan make sure say the fight for Kanu no end like that.
As Sowore don come out, e dey plan to pull more stunts. Him declare say, “You can’t warn me about my right” and e dey ready for another protest tomorrow! E day vex for police because he feel say dem no respect im rights. E talk say e go expose some of those police officers wey e don help before but now dey misbehave. E dey tell dem, “This fight no go end here!”
Meanwhile, the story dey continue as Sowore get case wey go happen for Federal High Court on November 5 because Department of State Services don file 5-count charge against am for social media post wey e call President Bola Tinubu “a criminal.” Na true wahala wey come from small tweet.
