South Africa: Deputy Minister Botes concludes working visit to Serbia and Bulgaria

The meeting further discussed the possibilities of increasing foreign direct investment in South Africa and enhancing South African value-added exports to Bulgaria.

Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Mr. Alvin Botes concluded his working visit to Serbia and Bulgaria, where he participated in the high-level commemorative meeting to mark the 60th anniversary of the Non-Movement Aligned (MNA) and Policy Consultation, respectively.

The high-level commemorative meeting was co-organized by the President of the Republic of Serbia, HE Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, HE Mr. Ilham Aliyev, Chairman of the NAM.

The meeting brought together 120 member states, including 17 observer states and 10 international observer organizations. The delegations deliberated on the historical significance of the Belgrade conference in 1961 recalling the noble objective of the founding fathers of the NAM held in Belgrade 60 years ago, which was to promote peaceful coexistence and sustainable development with full respect of the principles of Bandung.

Delegates also reaffirmed the importance of multilateralism, international cooperation and solidarity.

In Bulgaria, the Deputy Minister met with the Minister of Economy, Ms. Daniela Vezieva, to discuss economic cooperation.

The Deputy Minister also participated in a trade round table at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Deputy Minister Botes concluded his working visit by organizing bilateral political consultations with Bulgarian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms Zarista Dinkova.

The meeting discussed the commitment of both sides to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as possible collaboration on regional and multilateral issues in areas of common interest. The meeting further discussed the possibilities of increasing foreign direct investment in South Africa and enhancing South African value-added exports to Bulgaria.
