SON stops oil falsification syndicate

A team from the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) Surveillance, Investigation and Monitoring (SIM) Unit discovered a lubricant adulteration syndicate at the sunny 25 Isoko Street bus stop, Ojo, in Alaba’s international market area in Lagos State.

Operation Sting descended on the scene and arrested a prime suspect, Chizoba Emmanuel, who was found at the scene with various drums of base oil and empty drums used to mix and repackage substandard lubricants. .

SON’s chief executive Malam Farouk Salim called the discovery shocking, saying it was a wake-up call to Nigerians and in particular to the organization.

Salim, who was represented by the coordinator of the SIM unit, Mr. Suleiman Isa, said SON will continue to assume its responsibilities despite the activities of unscrupulous people bent on deceiving Nigerians.

According to him, despite several SON arrests in the past, deviant Nigerians persist in falsifying motor oil and selling to unsuspecting Nigerians.

“SON will not relax the ongoing struggle against unscrupulous elements who persist in defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians with their dubious acts,” he said.

Salim advised local importers and manufacturers to always adhere to international best practices in all of their businesses for a vibrant economy through business strengthening.

He assured that SON would continue to intensify its efforts to apprehend the criminals perpetrating such acts through the collection of discreet information and arrests.

He added that this would go a long way in ensuring that only standard goods and products have access to the country.

Salim therefore called on Nigerians to provide useful information to support the fight against substandard products by reporting any unhealthy practices in product manufacturing to SON.

The SIM team carried out the operation alongside men from the Nigerian Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who apprehended the suspects.

The suspect was found in possession of used lubricating plastics, several boxes of two popular brands of motor oil and a reconditioning machine and is currently under arrest pending investigations. (NOPE)
