Shopper’s Disbelief Over Expensive Manuka Honey Goes Viral
A shopper, who goes by the username @TheOzlanderReturns, shared a TikTok video of their disbelief over the expensive price of Capilano Manuka Honey. The shopper noticed two versions of the honey sealed in protective containers, with one bottle reduced from $30 to $26.
‘The honey is in a protective container. So is this one! I only just noticed that. I mean, you charge $30 for a packet of honey, what do you expect?’ the shopper exclaimed in the video. The video has gone viral, garnering thousands of views and shares.
Capilano, the Australian honey brand, responded to the viral video with a statement explaining their security measures. “While the majority of our customers do the right thing, from time-to-time individual stores make decisions to put additional security measures in place for some high-value products, such as Manuka honey,” a spokesperson for Capilano said.
The spokesperson further explained that customers who wish to purchase the expensive honey product can simply have the protective container removed at the checkout.
However, the shopper who shared the video was not convinced, writing in the video’s caption, “But Manuka honey always been expensive regardless of the economic situation! Even though it’s healthier, I never really liked it.”
The viral video sparked a conversation among social media users about the high costs of Manuka honey and whether it is truly worth the price.
