Al-Shabab commander surrenders to Somali army

An Al-Shabab commander surrendered to the Somali National Army, SNA, in the town of Wajid in the Bakool region of southwest Somalia on Sunday.

Mohamed Nur, an SNA army officer, told reporters that Mohamed Kulow Ali, who was in charge of the terror group’s operations in the southern region, had surrendered to the Somali army based in the town of Wajid, armed with AK47 rifle and ammunition.

“We are now presenting to the media the al-Shabab commander who was popular in the southwestern parts of the state here in the town of Wajid.

“He was armed with an AK47 rifle and ammunition after contacting the military about his surrender to the military,” Nur said.

He added that the military will welcome any terrorist willing to surrender in accordance with the government’s amnesty offer.

There was no immediate comment from the terrorist group that fought to overthrow the internationally recognized government.
