Abuja, Nigeria – E don happen! Senator Ireti Kingibe wey dey represent Federal Capital Territory, don come out with full chest talk say di sealing of properties by FCTA no get any legal backing. Na wah o, as she drop dis statement on May 26, 2025, for her official X handle.
Kingibe talk say even though we sabi say dem need enforce tax payments, dem wan use ground rent default take seize people property, na im no follow law at all. Wetin dem dey do no dey right, as penalty suppose only be fine or surcharge, not seizing house like say na National Cake wey dem wan share.
Last week Monday, FCTA don start to seal property wey no pay ground rent. Dis include di national secretariat of di Peoples Democratic Party, Access Bank, and even di Federal Inland Revenue Service office. Chai! Di way dem dey go dey make some pipo dey sweat small small.
To put pepper plus injury, President Bola Tinubu don intervene, give dem 14 days ultimatum to pay wetin dem owe, plus any extra charge wey dem fit get from di FCTA director, Chijioke Nwankwoeze. Kingibe no find dis kind wahala funny at all, she don talk say if dem wan revoke land title, e go follow di legal way according to di Land Use Act and di Urban and Regional Planning Act.
She dey vex say so many properties dey sealed all over Abuja, as dem dey do am without proper notice. Kingibe stress say dem need always carry fairness and sensitivity enter di matter, especially since many residents dey suffer economic wahala already.
In her own words: “I dey really dey worried about di high number of reports concerning di sealing of property by different government agencies. Enforcement correct, but e need follow law, or else e go just dey increase di hardship wey people dey face.”
And so di senator talk say ground rent wey dem dey charge no fit give agency power to snatch person property like dem dey pick mango for tree. She clarify say di law no allow dem take property without proper compensation, after dem revoke am for public interest.
Kingibe add say she go dey engage di right authorities to make sure say wetin FCTA dey do comply with di law. “Dis kind of premature sealing of properties no dey help anybody. E dey spoil lives, and e dey make people no trust di system again,” she talk. Na true talk o!
She urge all di residents and business owners to cool down and follow di law. “Make una no worry, we dey treat dis matter serious serious. Justice must reign, and di rule of law go prevail.”
So, as e be now, people dey look as di matter dey unfold. Na only time go show how dis matter go end but one tin we fit agree on be dis: no be all wahala wey dem fit waka with hammer on top pople property.
