Senate President visits wounded soldiers in Kaduna

By Mohammed Tijjani / Hassana Yakubu Senate Speaker Dr Ahmad Lawan on Saturday visited wounded soldiers receiving treatment at the 44th Kaduna Army Referral Hospital. The visit was part of the activities marking the second anniversary of the 9th Assembly. Lawan, who pledged adequate funding for the armed forces, donated 10 million naira to wounded soldiers. He said the visit was aimed at showing compassion and empathy to the affected and injured soldiers by defending the territorial integrity of the country. The Senate Speaker added that the visit was also aimed at assessing the needs of the military. Lawan pleaded for more resources to meet the needs of wounded soldiers, stressing that any army in the world reflects the nature of his country’s investment. He assured that the National Assembly would quickly process the supplementary budget of the armed forces as soon as it resumed after the anniversary break, adding that the 2022 credit would provide more resources to the armed forces. Lawan commended the armed forces in their efforts to ensure Nigeria’s territorial integrity, urging it to keep up the pace. In a remark, the general officer commanding the 1st division, Kaduna, the major general. Danjuma Ali-Keffi congratulated the President of the Senate on this visit, describing it as symbolic. Acting director of Medica Hospital Col. Steven Onuchukwu said the visit would serve to boost morale, especially as the military has stepped up the fight against the insurgency in the country. The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the Speaker of the Senate then toured the hospital. . NAN also reports that the Senate Speaker’s entourage included Majority Leader Senator Yahaya Abdulllahi, Chief Whip, Dr Orji Uzo Kalu, Senator Danjuma Laah and Senator Abdu Kwari, among others.
