Mr. Erastus Awortu, chairman of Andoni’s local government in Rivers, applauded the Nigerian Navy’s efforts to reduce crime and piracy in the country’s territorial waters.

Awortu made this known on Friday in Oyorokotor, a fishing colony in the Andoni de Rivers regional council, during a brief stopover at a Navy patrol boat on site by the waterway.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that the Oyorokotor fishing center shared a boat with some West African countries in the Gulf of Guinea.

Addressing some of the naval officers on patrol, the council chairman said he had chosen to embark on a visit to some fishing settlements in the coastal zone to check the level of peace and cooperation between the officers of the sea. local security.

“Oyorokoto is a coastal community and one of the fishing centers that promotes small and medium enterprises in this region. But in the recent past, the region has been plagued by insecurity and piracy at sea, causing untold hardship on the livelihoods of fishermen.

“We will visit some fishing villages today, the communities of Ama Nsan, Ibotokpon Mbaba and Oyorokoto Ete, the main thing is to ensure the level of safety and also to draw tracks to improve conditions. life of the inhabitants.

“We want to make sure that the residents of these fishing villages benefit from basic social services such as functioning schools and a health system,” he said.

Andoni’s chairman of the board also called for more support from officers to enable them to repel attacks by sea pirates and other criminal elements in Andoni’s waterways.

“We need the support of the Navy to help us achieve peace in the waterways of Andoni. I have established good relations with the Nigerian navy men deployed on the waterways of Andoni.

“I hope this relationship will be beneficial to our efforts to combat insecurity in the region,” he added. (www.)
