Search for New Manatee County Administrator Begins
On Tuesday, Manatee County commissioners commenced their search for a new administrator to fill the role left vacant by Scott Hopes, who resigned in early February.

Discussions of a proposed contract for waste management services and a show of support for a bill proposed in the Florida Legislature by Rep. Will Robinson, R-Bradenton, to allow the county to build a parking garage in Holmes Beach, were held.

County staff had negotiated a new 10-year contract for two waste hauling companies since April however, no updates had been presented up to that point.

The decision to split unincorporated Manatee County into three service areas, divided among two service providers, was minimized out of fear of potential litigation and contracts with FCC Environmental Services Florida LLC.
Waste Pro of Florida Inc. were tabled to allow negotiations for an extension until a new solution can be approved.
Commissioners proposed hiring an outside firm to consult for the county’s human resources department, which has seen increased scrutiny since Hopes’ departure, and appointed Community and Veteran’s Services Director Lee Washington to serve in an interim role.
State Rep. Robinson’s House Bill 947 may grant the county authority to build a parking garage in Holmes Beach without the city’s approval, and to show support, commissioners voted unanimously in favour of the bill.
