NEW YORK, USA – Sarah Jessica Parker, actress wey famous as Carrie Bradshaw for ‘Sex and the City‘, don reveal say she nearly decline di role wey turn her into global superstar. For wetin she talk on Kristin Davis podcast, Parker, wey now dey 60 years old, confess say she panic when HBO pick di show after dem shoot di pilot for 1997.
“I no fit explain am well. When dem pick di show, na wah for me. I say, ‘I no fit dey on top TV show. I no think say dat life go fit me’,” Parker talk. Despite wetin she feel during di pilot, she help dem collect some accolades but she wan remain as small guest actor for different shows and move on after dem finish.
When she finish di pilot, Parker talk say everything was lovely, but after dem pick di show, fear catch her. She remember say one producer for di street later tell her say di show dey good, and she dey vex say she no even remember say she dey act di pilot until dem call am.
“I just dey panic. Di idea of repeating di same things dey vex me,” she continue, “I dey lucky say I fit do small roles before and dem dey finish after one or two seasons. I no wan stay too long for where I no fit move go different places.”
Parker explain say di thought of being a regular character for a long time no sweet her for belle as she believe say e go restrict her ability to explore other opportunities. “E dey like person dey hold my mouth. Dey put hand for my mouth. E no make sense,” she talk.
Eventually, she talk to her agents say make dem help her find way out. “I tell dem say, ‘Please, get me out of dis contract’. I even offer to do movies for di network instead,” she narrate, adding say her agents suggest make she just try di series for one year and if she no like am again, dem go consider her aspirations. “Dem talk am like say HBO be some weird species wey be different from any network,” she added.
“For di pre-production, I meet wetin sabi fashion, Patricia Field, and she change di whole matter for me. From dat point, I begin see endless possibilities instead of restriction,” Parker talk. “As di filming start, I dey waka from my West Village apartment go di location and I never look back. No where else I go prefer to dey.”
Di show, based on di column wey Candace Bushnell write for New York Observer, run for six seasons from 1998 to 2004 and bring two movies in 2008 and 2010, plus di sequel series, ‘And Just Like That…’ wey don start since 2021 and dey prepare to release its third season on May 29, 2025.
