Sallah: firefighter boss warns Nigerians about safety

By Kelechi Ogunleye

Dr Ibrahim Liman, Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), warned Muslim worshipers to apply all necessary fire safety precautions during the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.

Liman gave his opinion in a statement by FFS spokeswoman Ugo Huan on Tuesday in Abuja.

Liman urged citizens to be careful as the holiday involves a lot of cooking activities in order to avoid reckless acts that could lead to fires.

“All fire safety precautions must be observed, which means that the roasting of animals must be done in an open space.

“Gas cylinders should be kept outside the kitchen as cooking should not be left unattended.

“When going out, all electrical appliances should be turned off and children should not be allowed to play with matches or go near fire.

“Most importantly, a working fire extinguisher should be within sight of the house,” he advised.

According to the statement, the Comptroller General has placed all fire stations in the country on red alert.

He called on all zone and state commanders to ensure that all fire stations were ready to respond to any fire calls as soon as possible.

He also called on citizens to always call emergency numbers (08032003557, 112) whenever there is a fire or an emergency related incident.

Liman, while wishing all Muslim worshipers and Nigerians a happy and fire-free celebration, assured Nigerians of the firefighters’ readiness to respond to any emergency calls during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
