Rwanda don officially launch one serious two-week medical treatment and training program wey dey happen aboard di Orbis Flying Eye Hospital for Kigali International Airport. Na dis level wey dis flying hospital don come land for Rwanda first time o! (E be like say dem wan make eye go shine for everybody.)
Dis hospital no be ordinary one. Na fully accredited ophthalmic teaching hospital on top converted MD-10 aircraft. Dis no be plane wey fit carry passengers only, e dey ready to save eyes! Di program wey start on July 29 go help lokal eye care teams to sharpen dem skills and make dem sabi eye health matter more. (No jokes, if you no fit see well, wetin remains?)
According to di Rwandan Minister of Health, Sabin Nsanzimana, eye care specialists no dey for di country well well. “We only get 30 ophthalmologists for 13 million pipo. Our target na to increase am to at least 70.” Na serious work dem dey do here oh! (I fit even count di doctors wey dey here—na wah!)
Di Orbis crew go dey lead training sessions wey go cover everything from surgical practice to hands-on workshops. Dem dey teach about strabismus (no be wahala o), cataract surgery, oculoplastics, and medical retina care. E no go be say dem go just dey talk talk, na active training wey dey go on! (Abeg, if you fit do person surgery, no be sey dem go just give you scissors for house!)
Ciku Mathenge, di medical advisor for Orbis in Africa, talk say dem dey use beta technology to train dem Rwandan doctors, wey go help dem deliver high-quality eye care. E also talk sey over di last four years, Orbis don train doctors from Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Ethiopia, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, and Burundi. Dem dey teach techniques like laser treatments and monoclonal antibody injections. (Na serious upgrade for dem doctors! Dem go turn bags of onions to sharp shooters!)
For di next four days, dem expect over 40 surgeries go happen either aboard di flying eye hospital or for Kibagabaga Hospital wey be di host health facility for Kigali. As Orbis professionals don sidon since July 18, dem don already train over 1,000 Rwandan healthcare workers. Na so dem dey raise di bar for health care o!
