Ricciardo gets back in the game with Red Bull
Two-year sabbatical causes bad habits
After a disappointing stint with McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo opted to become Red Bull’s third driver for the 2023 season. Red Bull plans to use Ricciardo as a reserve and testing driver throughout the year, including putting him in the simulator to get him up to speed. However, Red Bull has observed bad habits that Ricciardo picked up during his two-year hiatus from the Red Bull squad at Renault and McLaren. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner acknowledged that driving a car with limitations causes drivers to adapt and adjust to get the most out of the vehicle, but Ricciardo’s time away has caused some habits that the team didn’t recognize.
Ricciardo’s comeback
Horner has commented that Ricciardo is getting back to his old self since returning to Red Bull. He explains that Ricciardo appears to like the feel of the car in the virtual world, which is reassuring since it correlates well with what they see in the actual world.
Positive energy in the team
Ricciardo may no longer have a race drive this year, but he is enjoying himself with Red Bull. Horner has mentioned that Ricciardo is taking his role very seriously and is doing his best to be involved with the team. Although it may be difficult for Ricciardo not to race, he expresses deep interest in the work he is doing with the team.
