PTAD pays 9 months of arrears of pension increases to DBS retirees

By Nana Moussa

The Directorate of the Transitional Pension Scheme (PTAD) paid nine additional months of adjustment arrears following the new 2019 minimum wage increase to defined benefit pensioners (DBS).

PTAD head of corporate communications Mr. Gbenga Ajayi said in a statement issued on behalf of PTAD executive secretary Dr Chioma Ejikeme in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said the nine-month arrears were paid to retirees from the Civil Service Pensions Department and six months of the same arrears to retirees from parastatals, police, customs, immigration and prisons.

“This brings the arrears paid so far to a total of 18 of the 24 months in arrears of the pension increase.

Ajayi said the Ejikeme made the statement in response to retirees’ praise for the payment of arrears.

He said that in May the management implemented the pension adjustment as a result of the 2019 minimum wage increase and started paying the arrears to retirees in operational departments, as reported by President Muhammadu Buhari. .

“Civil service retirees were paid nine months in arrears while retirees from parastatals, police and customs, immigration and prisons were paid 12 months in arrears in May.

“With this payment, each of the retirees of the 4 operational departments would have a balance of six months of arrears to pay,” he said.

According to the executive secretary, the payment was intended to further support DBS retirees, especially during this festive period of this year’s Eid-al-Kabir celebration.

Ejikeme wished all Muslim retirees a happy Eid El Kabir, pledged to continue to support and promote the welfare of the elderly in accordance with the mandate of the leadership. (NAA)
