PSG and Morocco’s Hakimi charged with rape
Achraf Hakimi, a defender for Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco, has been charged with rape by French prosecutors following accusations by a 24-year-old woman.
The footballer is alleged to have paid for his accuser to travel to his home in Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris, while his wife and children were away on holiday.
After being questioned by prosecutors, Hakimi has denied any wrongdoing and claims to be the victim of an “attempted racket”.
He has been supported by PSG, who have voiced trust in the justice system.
Under French law, a charge does not necessarily imply a trial will take place.
Hakimi was named in the FIFPro men’s world team of the year last year and is set to return to action next week after receiving treatment for a thigh injury.
