By Monday Ijeh
The Police Services Commission (PSC) confirmed the appointments of three Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIG) who performed an interim function.

PSC press and public relations chief Ikechukwu Ani announced in a statement Thursday in Abuja.

He said the commission refused the promotion of Mr. Ibrahim Magu, police commissioner and former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ani said that promotion of Magu would be considered pending authorization from the office of the Federation Attorney General and Minister of Justice and the Office of the Inspector General of Police.

He said the DIGs whose appointments have been confirmed are Tijanni Baba and Zanna Ibrahim, to the northeast and Moses Jitoboh, to the south-south.

The PSC spokesperson said the commission approved the promotion of 24 police commissioners (PCs) to the rank of deputy police inspectors general (AIG).

Ani said the decisions were the highlights of the committee’s 12th plenary meeting chaired by Chairman Musiliu Smith, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

He said the commission also approved the promotion of 35 Assistant Police Commissioners (DCP) to PCs and 52 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) to DCPs.

Ani said 46 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) have been promoted to ACP.

According to him, the commission also examines and approves the promotion of 10 police commissioners in CSP, 17 deputy police commissioners (DSP) in commissioners.

He said 139 assistant superintendents of police (ASP) whose names were ignored in the last promotion to assistant superintendents and nine inspectors to assistant police superintendents have also been approved.

Ani said Smith praised recipients and called for a commitment to serve with respect for the laws of the land and the fear of God.

He pledged the commission’s commitment to continue to ensure that promotions in the police follow due process and in a timely manner. (NOPE)
